Why do people follow false gurus?

I would like to start a serious discussion on something. Why is it that in the Hindu tradition, there are so many people who willingly follow bogus gurus? You have "gurus" like Sai Baba who pretend that they are God, and yet are found to be pedophiles. Yet people follow them, buy their books, give them money, etc.

My question is why? What makes someone cling with blind faith to a person who commits such abominable activities? What do members of such cults get out of it? Does the Sai Baba give them money? Or something less tangible (the feeling of feeling good about oneself?) that makes them follow such known criminals?

beceuse of one or more of the following reason.

- it is not easy to them to know if a guru is false.

they think guru is not false.

when the find the truth, they quit the guru.

- the know guru is false, but they also have false motive (unspiritual) and the guru helps achieve that motive.

in effect one becomes a gang mamber. they do not qqqquit the guru till they know guru will get exposed badly, and consequently they will get exposed too.

- some know guru is flase, but still has something good, and they are focussed on the good part only. however, such cases are very less.

the reasons are same/simlar to why one picks a bad doctor.

...and it is particularly the case in India...everyone in India cries out for spiritual salvation...but in the age of Kali many are too lazy to work for it, so they go for localized gurus - more convenient to visit!! Or they go for miracle gurus - easier to surrender...

...said that is why India is the source of all these god-men, because the people who want spirituality are mainly in India, and they sometimes either easily get misguided to wrong path, or they follw the easiest path...i.e. some man-god....

India's strength is it's spirituality...it's weakness is that the people often easily get misguided on the wrong spiritual path in the age of kali...

The West's strength is material advancement...it's weakness is a total disregard for God and his laws...

Haribol. Because Krsna affirms that he is the cause of both rememberance and forgetfulness, His guru-tattwa works the same way.

There are no false gurus, gurus are sent by God to give help to all. If one wants cheap, he will get cheap, if one wants authenticity, he gets authenticity.

In other words, a disciple is responsible as well as guru. It is a reciprocal commitment.

So what do we want, a gem, or a broken piece of colored glass?
