What is Hinduism?

A Christian, visiting India from the West, would surely think it strange if he or she was told by an Indian, "You are a follower of Jordanism."

Christianity, along with Judaism and Islam, hails from the region of the Jordan river. But it is unlikely that Christians, Jews and Muslims would like their faiths being lumped together under such an artificial, unscriptural category as "Jordanism."

Yet just this sort of thing was done to the followers of the indigenous religions of India. The word "Hinduism" is derived from the name of a river in present-day Pakistan, the Sindhu (also known as the Indus). Beginning around 1000 AD, invading armies from the Middle East called the place beyond the Sindhu "Hindustan" and the people who lived there the "Hindus" - due to the invaders' language, the "s" was changed to "h". In the centuries that followed, the term "Hindu" became acceptable even to the Indians themselves as a general designation for their different religious traditions. But since the word Hindu is not found in the scriptures upon which these traditions are based, it is quite inappropriate. The proper term is "Vedic dharma" or "sanatana dharma".

Hare Krishna movement is a part of Vedic Vaisnava tradition and presents teachings of the Vedas in its original, pure form, which was preserved due to a succession of masters and disciples (parampara). by the mercy of Srila Prabhupada, this teaching has therefore proved that it can change the lives of thousands in a positive way.

It is an new name of Vedic dharma.

This new name cannot be found in old vedic literature.

maadhav is my new name, and it cannot be found in my old records anywhere.

one has right to accept any name.

so, now that the world knows us by the word hindu or ourh dharma by hinduism, we have chosen to accept these new names.

<< Hare Krishna movement is a part of Vedic Vaisnava tradition >>

correct, vedic vaishnav tradition.

so there are other vedic traditions, and you know it.

because all htese traditions are from hte same vedas, that fact unites us all as hindus. note that the vedas does notinclude islam or . or judaism. there three grew out of india. india was only vedic before they grew.

so the hindus's land is india subcontinet, and dharm is nay of the vedic tradition. the veda and the land is common for all the hindus.

these unite us all the hindus,

and we need to unite for the protection of these two: dharma and rashtra.

and dharma/gita says how to.

HKs are never going to pay attention. All they can do is steal from hinduism (or sanatan dharma, if the HKs have a problem with the H word), and pretend it is their own. I wonder why people are ashamed of the hindu tag? Is it due to slave mentality? Lack of leadership? Nothing to be proud of? What could be the reason? Even after getting slaughtered for thousand years, Hindus can only fight amongst themselves, but lick the aggressor's boots without shame. No wonder, India is such a mess.

..different.. you can be a follower of sanatan dharma, who is universal, but you accept the hinduism who is local and temporary

I wonder why people are ashamed of the hindu tag?

..not ashamed.. hinduism is meaningless

Even after getting slaughtered for thousand years, Hindus can only fight amongst themselves, but lick the aggressor's boots without shame.

..discover your real heritage and spread the real dharma, sanatana dharma. In this way adharma automatically goes away

India is such a mess.

..so let us avoid the hindu mess... you are ram bhakta, vaishnava, not hindu. In hinduism there's mayavadis and impersonalists.. people who consider ramachandra a mortal character created by impersonal brahman to make more easy the worshipping of ignorants
