Hello my son has been invited to his friends wedding soon. We are europeans and are not of Sikh or Hindu faith. He has been told to cover his head for the ceremony, the bride and groom are of mixed faith and so it will be the Sikh ceremony in the morning and the Hindu ceremony in the afternoon. Is anyone able to tell me what kind of headcovering should he wear, how big, are any colours thought to be more auspicious than other colours. Also can you give advice please on what his girlfriend should also aim to wear if attending in western clothes. I appreciate any help you can give as he is really looking forward to this day and enjoying such a happy occasion with his very good friends. It will be a great cultural opportunity for him. He intends also to wear a regular western suit (black) with possibly purple shirt and tie, are these appropriate colours also?

Many thanks, Lynn

you can cover head -hair- with a scarf.

Fold the square scard over a diagonal.

That diagonal goes above the eyes and around teh head at the back wher you can tie teh ends with two knowts.

The middle corner gove over the had and back at the knot.

A woman can use a bit bigger scarf, but the diagonal goes from top front face down to under the chin

where a knot can be tied or teh ends can be kept loose and hanging. the middle part goes over the head and hans below teh neck at the back. Full face stays visible.

by doing this one respects sikh tradition.

hope it helps.

in addition to what is said by madhav, i would recommend, for women, to not wear dresses with legs uncovered.. miniskirts and so on

but you are intelligent and i never imagine that you go to a marriage dressed like a sexy star
