Guest guest Report post Posted March 7, 2004 ..I have been looking for DAYS upon DAYS for way to translate names into sanskrit..and I am having some major issues..anyway my best friend and I are planning on getting tattoos together..and I was suggesting our names in Sanskrit.. ..sanskrit is absolutly beautiful, and I think we would both agree on this idea...so if anyone would PLEASE help me I would be ever so greatful! her name is Melissa and my name is Marie thank you so much! There are more Indian scripts for writing Sanskrit. 1. Devanagari (the most common) 2. Roman Trancription 3.Kannada 4. Telugu 5. Malayalam. The last three are South-Indian and also used for Sanskrit. Like will people who know sanskrit know its my name..or will it not make any sense at all? Vinayakan 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2004 Sanskrit is not like Chinese. Chinese characters are pictogrammes and words in Chinese. Indian scripts are phonetic, and the symbols represent sounds. If a transcribed name have a meaning in Sanskrit, it is coincidental. There is no word like Marie in Sanskrit. But there is a Meliisha in Sanskrit. Mela (melaa, melaH or melanam) means association, meeting, fair, a gathering of people. Isha means lord. It is a made but meaningful word. Or if my friend wants to use her name I should use the Melissa in the first attatchment response? ...and not the Melisha in the second?
