Forced conversions of tribals by Christian missionaries

December 16, 2003, 9:45 am

Sanjay K. Jena (Organiser)

Bhubaneswar: Christian missionaries not only from Orissa, but throughout the country are into yet another disinformation campaign and as usual against Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other Sangh organisations.

The Bible was allegedly burnt in Deogarh district’s rural backyard in the western region of Orissa. But the Christian missionaries willingly suppressed the fact that they, violating the Law of the State, used all fraudulent means to convert tribal to their religion by allurement. When the local people rose against their dubious works they termed popular local resistance as the work being done by RSS and its other affiliates.

The incident happened like this—eight families in Ambulapani village of Tilaibani Block of Deogarrh district were converted to Christianity last month. Added to this, few months back 22 families, belonging to Makdia tribe, living in the forests close to Tilaibani in the same district, were converted by fraudulent means. It may be noted that two people from the tribe had died and the Christian missionaries provided medical aid to other ailing tribal in the same community telling that it is Jesus, not their God who could save them from death and disease.

Through this notorious act, missionaries have violated the Orissa Freedom of Religion Act, which prohibits conversion from one religion to another by use of force, inducement or any fraudulent means. The Freedom of Religion Act also makes it mandatory to inform the District Collector at least 15 days in advance of one’s desire to be converted. The collector has to certify the people of the genuineness of his desire to be converted to other religion.

Local newspapers have also acknowledged the fact that conversion has taken place in Deogarh district. Several members of the State Assembly in the last session had raised the issue of conversion and the Speaker had directed the State Government to implement the Freedom of Religion Act, more seriously.

Even as the local people have started resisting the illegal works of foreign-funded conversion works, the Christian have started filing false FIRs to malign Sangha workers. More shocking is the fact that the local BDO of Tilaibani, Abhiram Kerkata, a Christian, has reportedly also extended support to missionary activities and has always misled the district administration.

In Phulbani district also, the missionaries' efforts to convert tribal in Khajuripada Block have been frustrated by local opposition. Phulbani District Collector and Superintendent of Police had to specially intervene to stop conversion programme in Jharisahi village of Phulbani district.

It may be noted here that Khurda District and Sessions Judge, Mehendra

Nath Patnaik had said: “If the provisions of law are strictly followed, no one can have any grievance to content that the gullible and innocent tribal are being converted.”

“If missionaries will continue to take law into their own hands to convert people by allurement and inducement, the Hindu opposition should not be termed as being handiwork of RSS and VHP”, commented RSS Prant Karyavah Bipin Bihari Nanda.

just as foxes cannot be allowed enter in a chicken farm,

the aggresive religions' missionary should not be allowed BY LAW to enter or live on the vedic land.

- change the law soon to that effect

- make the public well aware of the harm caused by the missionaires so that they will not fall pray.

A fox would die if it couldn't find any food. A chicken would escape if it were unrestricted by a farm & run fast enough. The ending is ultimately determined by competition instead of law.

A dog or pack of dogs can protect the chicken. Here Law is the pack of dogs.

Are you saying that those missionaries are right ?

Don't forget a dog is a chicken's eater, too.

Are you saying that those missionaries are right ?

Never. A winner is right & a loser is deserving.

7:55 Say to her, You produce gold and silver and brass, and also iron and lead and clay;

7:56 but silver is more abundant than gold, and brass than silver, and iron than brass, and lead than iron, and clay than lead.

60:17 For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness.
