NEW DELHI: The world's oldest language, Sanskrit will now be accessible not only to scholars but also to lay persons on "Sanskrit Net" which will be shown on a television channel "Gyan Darshan".

 

"If an ordinary person wishes to grasp the essence of India's rich culture, tradition and scientific knowledge of various Sanskrit classics and Sanskrit language, he or she will just have to hook on to the Sanskrit Net," a human resource development ministry official said.

 

HRD minister M M Joshi will inaugurate Bhasha Mandakini on Gyan Darshan on Friday and "launch Sanskrit Net - a programme for Sanskrit education meant not only for scholars but also for the common man," a spokesman said.

 

At the same time, by networking Sanskrit teaching institutes a virtual network is being created through IGNOU between the Sanskrit institutes.

 

The programme is being jointly launched by Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeet and Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidya Peeth, Tirupati along with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). "Initially only two hours per day will be utilised for Sanskrit net," the official added.
