Guest guest Report post Posted March 19, 2003 I am reading a Chinese Sutras translated from the zaaduulakarNaavadaana, the names of 28 nakSatras were translated into Chinese by thier Sanskrit meaning. the puurvaaSaaDhaa and uttaraaSaaDhaa translated into "former fish" and "northern fish". I searched `aSaaDha' in `Apte Dic' and got the following: meanings of "aSaaDha" [1] a.{a-stem} 1.not to be overcome; 2.born under the constellation aaSaaDha meanings of "aSaaDha" [2] m.{a-stem} 1.the month aaSaaDha commencing with the sun's entrance into Gemini; 2.a staff made of the wood of palaaza, carried by a religious student or ascetic; 3.name of the malaya mountain meanings of "aSaaDha" [3] f.{a-stem} 1.name of a constellation I can't understand why the word was translated into 'fish', can someone tell me if the word do have some relationship with 'fish'?
