are we allowed to eat gelling agent because i have realised that jams contain gelling agent and i am not sure what it's made off

most 'gells' contain substances made of horns of dead animals. better avoid.

Haribol,

 

Always best to read the label - in the UK most jam is usually labelled as being suitable for vegetarians and uses pectin, wuich is gelling agent made from fruit peel.

 

If the label says it uses pectin as the gelling agent you are ok (I think!)

 

Else you could make your own jam if you have enough time - that way you know whats gone into it.

Gelatine is an unacceptable product to vegetarians as it is a by-product of the slaughterhouse industry, being made of protein derived from animal bones, cartilage, tendons and other tissues such as pig skin. but there are some that are made from seaweeds like carrageen and the like.

 

there are a lot of chewy candies that use gelatine from the beef marrow. check first on the ingredients label. but as the saying goes, better safe than sorry.
