Question about correct procedure of reading Durga Saptashati and homam.

I want to do Durga saptashati path during Navratri. Since I am new to this, I have some questions... Qns-1. Is it ok to do Chandi path without homam, just by lighting dhoop and lamp and offering sweet/fruit to ma ? because I live in a rented flat where the smoke detector is installed. Qns-2. If I follow the division of chapters and read it during all nine days of Navratri, is it necessary to read Kavach, Argalastotram etc also every day ? Or Is it ok to read Kavach, Argalastotram, Kilakam etc on first day only and Devi sooktam, Aparadh kshama prarthana in the last day ? What is the correct procedure to read Durga Saptashati ? I shall be very thankful if someone can guide me. God bless !
