Guest guest
When I was still living at home, my mother would sometimes make a really good butterscotch frosting for chocolate cake. It came from the top of a can of Spry shortening, and involved cooking brown sugar, shortening, and butter, then adding in milk, and then, after taking it off the heat, powdered sugar. Of course, I don't have the recipe any more, and the proportions are really key for a recipe like this. Does anyone have some idea where I could find the recipe? I don't think they even make Spry shortening anymore...not that I've had any shortening in the house for twenty some years. Something about Christmas just makes me want to bake, and this frosting would be perfect. Thanks! Sue in Wausau. (My mother was born in 1909, and I think the recipe was from the late forties, but possibly even earlier.)
