Guest guest Report post Posted December 10, 2009 This is a great recipe for nutritional benefit as well as taste. I eant navy beans almost every day. the other days I usually eat lentils. Enjoy! Navy Bean Soup Recipe 2 cups of navy beans 1 green pepper, chopped 1 tbsp of sugar (optional) 4 medium onions, diced cayenne, salt, black pepper, 1 garlic clove, peeled and crushed 1 tsp of paprika 1 can of tomatoes 1tsp of baking soda(optional-helps eliminate gas) 1/3 cup of mazola oil 3 stems celery chopped about 5 cuups of water Clean beans in water removing any grit. Soak beans overnight, or for at least three hours, in about 5 cups of water (in the refrigerator to prevent fermantation), pour water off and add about 5 cups of water and all ingredients except salt and tomatoes. Add them when the beans are nearly done. Salt added early will make the beans hard. When done you may strain beans or leave them whole. if soup is too thick, add a little boiling water. Serves 4 *soaking beans overnight with baking soda helps to prevent the beans from forming gas *this is the basic navy bean soup recipe, so feel free to add additional ingredients/ seasoning
