I do not have a complete set but I do have a set of cereal/soup dishes,

have had them for years and use almost daily. Love them.

I think it gets too hot in the microwave. And whenever I break a piece, it

shatters everywhere (unlike my regular dishes). I think I'm down to one

cereal bowl, from odds and ends of Corelle I had in college. I do like

Corningware, which is made by the same company. I like Corningware better

than Pyrex because when Corningware chips, the chip isn't as sharp as Pyrex.

I would heartily recommend arcoroc dinner ware -- I have a set and they

have lasted me quite a while. I started buying them back in 1984 and when I

come across pieces in my pattern I snatch them up. I believe my pattern is

called " fleur " . Really pretty but I have to use a brush on the bottom of

the plates when washing to get the pattern clean -- well worth it in my

estimation.

I have a set of Corelle that I bought in 1976--the year before I got

married!  Most of the plates are still around; someone gave me extra saucers and

cups a while back, but in a move, I found the saucers but none of the

hand-me-down cups, except for one lonely " original " from my set.  I have somehow

also acquired a few odd plain white bowls that didn't come with the set...

Whomever said they shatter and make a horrible, splintery mess was right.

I have had a few Corelle dishes/plates and all but one of the cups

break--usually shattering into needle-like shards that are truly scary!

My DH and I have talked often about replacing the old Corelle with

something prettier, sturdier or at least more up-to-date, but so far, we've

stuck with the old stuff for our everyday table-ware.

We also have a set of china that gets pulled out every now and then--it's

nice to USE it and not just keep it in the cupboard all the time!  The china was

a gift after we'd been married several years... " open stock " it was, but not so

now!  We've broken pieces of that and have had a harder time replacing

them...about that, we also are saying, " one of these days we might replace this

stuff... "   Ah, well!  I'm most of the time just happy we have abundant FOOD to

eat than worried that my china or Corelle is old and getting broken or chipped!

I'm enjoying the posts: Thursday this week I'm going for a week-long visit

to my daugher, son-in-law and grandson's home & may not get to see any e-mails

for a while.  I'll read them and save the good recipes when I get back, however!

   Peace!

PS:  My daughter & family live just a block's walk from a lovely small

supermarket that's like a tiny " Whole Foods " , called " New Frontiers " .  If

anyone's ever in the neighborhood of

Flagstaff, AZ. or Sedona, AZ. check out those stores--they have a wonderful hot

and cold food deli and are very " veg-friendly " .  Sedona's not a big town, but it

has several really NICE places with good food options.

I have a love/hate relationship with it.  I love Corelle (at least the set we

have) because it's light and microwaves well, but like Audrey I don't like it

because it shatters in a 1000 pieces when it just barely touches a hard

surface.

This has happened with 2 sets.  One was my mothers and she didn't like it so I

got it, the other we had and both sets break.  One shatters in 1000 shredded

pieces, the other set just breaks into 3 or 4 chunky pieces.

Stoneware is too heavy, so we're looking to replace our sets with something

light, useful and sturdy if such a thing still exists.
