hi shawn,

i don't know about the orangy color, but i would say

it's slightly yellowish....off white. it doesn't

smell like milk...a little stronger. does that can

have an expiration date on it?

Shawn, throw it away! *lol* Ew!

Evaporated milk should have a creamy off-white color.

It should not have a cheesy odor at all, but only smell like

regular cow milk or cream. i think your can has gone bad.

i have had old cans of sweetened condensed milk go orangy

in the cupboard, too. Bleh.... toss it.

Thanks Susie, Amy and PT. I actually made a couple of calls after the email

and decided to toss it. Gotta go with the gut instinct.

I ended up getting another can. I wish I would have taken pictures of both

for comparison. The new can was a touch lighter in color. It still had

what I call a cheesy smell but seemed to have a fresher aroma to it. I

don't know - for all I know the other stuff could have been good.

Anywho, thanks for the wonderful tip, PT, that you mentioned earlier. I

think you mentioned that this is good for soups and such. Sounds like good

stuff for casseroles too. So many recipes call for canned soup for

casseroles and some of those are really high in sodium and contain meat. I

also like the idea of having a can on hand (not for several years though)

for soups. Sometimes I'll buy half n half and it goes to waste because I

don't use all of it (or drink coffees).

Thanks again gang.

i will have to open a can soon and give it a sniff to see

if it does have a cheesy smell you noticed. Cow milk,

to me, just smells funny anyway, and this stuff is sort

of concentrated, so maybe that is what you mean.

But as to the possibility that the first can was

good? Nah-uhn, no dice. i highly doubt it. *lol* You did

the right thing... better safe than sorry. :)
