Guest guest
Hey guys, I'm moving at the end of the month and I've already asked my roommate to start saving ads from Trader Joes and Krogers, so I can look to see what foods there are (it's been so long I've forgotten!) or what new foods are offered in the states. But I was hoping that maybe you guys could offer me some brand names or food items to try in the US (available at TJ's or Krogers). Some things I'd like to find the equivalent to is a firm tofu I buy here that is premarinated/packages with olives, tomato and chili (www.taifun-tofu.com). Or is this brand available in the US even? If not I can always marinate plain tofu but I love this stuff. Also any brands of soy milk (especially if there are flavored options) would be great. Hmmm other things like oatmeals or preserves, applesauce, peanut butter, soups, pastas, sauces, chocolate (fair-trade a plus), ice creams (milk or soy) or any other particular brands/foods you'd like to suggest. I'm not really into 'fake-foods' (fake-hot dogs, fake chicken, fake animal name here) but if you like a particlar type I'd be willing to give it a try. I also have a World Market nearby so I can buy a few things there too...I know they have some German foods. Or even just shopping tips...things to watch out for and what not. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks! -Katie
Guest guest
Some brands that I like: Tasty Bites (Trade Joes and maybe Krogers), packages of Indian food. A foil pouch (that comes in a box) that you boil and then cut open and pour onto your favorite carb, rice, potatoes, couscous. Amy's (probably Krogers), she does frozen and canned stuff. I like her soup and chili. Fantastic Foods (maybe both stores), they make dried mixes for tabouleh, falahfel, veggie burgers etc. Silk brand soymilk. They make organic soymilk in regular and vanilla. Bob's Red Mill - dry goods, such as soy flour, tvp, pancake mix etc. I know you said you don't like the fake meats, but here are some brands that we like to eat: Yves - make fake lunch meat LightLife - Smart Ground, Smart Dogs, Gimme Lean Boca - mostly the brats Gardenburger - James is addicted to the Riblets Quorn - naked chikn cutlets, turky roast, chikn patties, chikn tenders Hope that gives you a start. You can find all of these brands on line as they all have their own websites. Enjoy your last month in Germany. I spent my Junior year in college studying in Munich. Denise PS Although World Market is great, it can be expensive, look for things at Trader Joes or Krogers first. , " budgiegirl2003 " <budgiegirl2003> wrote: > Hey guys, I'm moving at the end of the month and I've already asked my > roommate to start saving ads from Trader Joes and Krogers, so I can > look to see what foods there are (it's been so long I've forgotten!) or > what new foods are offered in the states. Guest guest
thanks! I've heard about those brands before but most I've never tried. Wasn't planning on using World Market for grocery shopping just for fun treats and odds and ends...like I know they carry Kinder Egg chocolates there and some other fun snacks. I'll definitely be checking out the websites for these and skimming through the products. , " organic_homestead " <organic_homestead> wrote: > Some brands that I like: > > Tasty Bites (Trade Joes and maybe Krogers), packages of Indian food. Guest guest
So I was looking at the websites of the brands provided (some seemed still overprocessed or microwave focused but found many neat things to try and many of the 'fake food' brands also offer pastas and lasangas num) and I knew I had heard of Quorn before...I read this website regularly and they had an article on it awhile back... http://cspinet.org/quorn/ ....has anyone had problems with Quorn before? Just wondering. -Katie , " organic_homestead " <organic_homestead> wrote: > Some brands that I like: > > Tasty Bites (Trade Joes and maybe Krogers), packages of Indian food. I can eat the LightLife grounds with no stomach problems. Denise
