Hi everyone,

I just joined this group and another vegetarian group. So if you belong to the

other group I apologize for getting this same intro twice.

My name is Sharon and I have been vegetarian for about 5 years now. I was a

really big meat eater. I tried to go vegetarian about 15 years ago and craved

meat so much I couldn't continue. I love the meat substitutes. They are the only

way I was able to stop eating meat. I don't eat as many substitutes as I use to

but whenever I find I am craving something I can satisfy that with one of them.

I took early retirement last year so I could move from the Bay Area in

California to the furthest sout western corner of Oregon with my parents and

help them out (physically, emotionally and financially). I cook most of the

meals so my parents aren't eating much meat now either.

Well, that's it for now.

Hi Sharon, welcome to the group!

I enjoy several of the meat substitutes. I'm kind of like you, I had to find

a good vegetarian hot dog so I wouldn't fall off the wagon! :) Sounds like

your parents are very lucky to have such a loving daughter -- and it also

sounds like they're eating pretty well with you cooking. Enjoy the recipe

files, there are lots of good ones.

Hi Sharon, welcome to the Garden of Earthly Delights! I think you've found a

good way to transition over to a vegetarian (or almost) diet plan. Good for you!

On behalf of other old parents, thank you for what you're doing for yours.

(Adopt me, please.)

You'll love this group and the recipes. The people here are absolutely the best.

Of course that's just my opinion, but I'm right.

Have you discovered TVP yet? I've cooked with it for decades. Many of the meat

substitutes I've seen in the stores are made with TVP - so are a lot of other

" meat " dishes, lol. Our grandson used to live on a popular ramen noodle dish

which had more TVP in it than chicken. I never told him it was there; the kid

could read.

Welcome again! Jeanne in GA
