I'm probably the youngest one on this list, and admitting this will make it obvious. The majorly traumatic movie from my childhood was 'The Land Before Time'. Remember, about the dinosaurs and the earthquake? I think it came out in the mid 80s or so.

Hi Muffy, Well I've just about got used to policemen looking like

teenagers and mere schoolgirls being the experts on tv but now I'm

really getting worried. Perhaps it's time for me start taking an

interest in the obituary pages. :-)

Are there any older vegans on this list - say round the half a century

mark. Not that I'm admitting to anything.

Was anybody's life changed forever after reading John Seymour's

Practical Self Sufficency?

I was sooooooooo little when I saw Bambi and I have never seen it since. If I recall correctly, I saw it at a drive-in and fell asleep just before the bad scene and woke up all confused. I've heard people say that it made them cry, tho'

Oh, oh!! I remember that movie! (And all the many, many after it). For me

the most tramatic was " Fern Gully, the Last Rainforest " . I was very

impressionable and it really stayed with me. Prehaps that's why I'm getting a

degree in Enviornmental Science.

Y'know - talking of ear hair - in the UK a few years back, we had an advert

on TV for something which claimed to remove " unsightly nasal and ear hair " .

It made me wonder what they thought classified as " sightly " nasal and ear

hair :-)

Hi Jo,

yes it was traumatic. I was going to join in recent multi list

debates about families giving my homily that families are the people

you can treat like shit and they still love you when it suddenly

ocurred to me that my Dad is still around somewhere and I haven't

spoken to him for about 20 years.

began to feel a bit guilty but then thought about my poor beloved

figaro..plus his hobby was hunting. I used to come down on a Monday

morning to get ready for school and he'd be boiling stag heads in the

kitchen so he could mount the antlers on little wooden plaques. He

gave

me my first air rifle, a special minature one when I was 7 and taught

me to shoot sparrows. Then I graduated to a mini shot gun and was

paid

to blast squirrel dreys and beat for shoots.

But he also read me poetry, taught me a lot about wildlife and

conservation, and took me to museums and things which is more than

lots of parents do.

now i've given you all nightmares, sorry, but everything you

experience makes you who you are and i'm quite happy with who i am.

Does you good to have a good moan though.

Oh dear, that was about the year of the 54 cafe in Beckenham, the

first free festivals, Are you going to San Francisco, Procul Harum,

bells sewn on my flares, velvet coats, bare feet and painted

eyelashes. Pointedly ignoring Bowie's crowd at the Prompt cafe. Both

ignoring ska crowd at Wimpy. For further lurid details read Hanif

Christ you were a mere toddler when I was a rebellious art student -

tutor abuses student - gets even better grade - tears up assessment

Well if it's any consolation, in that picture of you on your profile you still look quite young. 20's-ish. I have a theory that vegetarianism drastically slows the ageing process. I had my hair cut recently by a woman who was one year my senior. We looked at *least* 10 years apart! And my best friend (we became veggie together when we were freshman in high school) looks really young, too. Just a thought...

Jojo,

it's not just a thought, it's a fact. Vegans do have better looking skin. Most meaties have this red looking skin from eating meat. Vegans have natural looking skin, like they've been out in the sun and fresh air all day long. So you can always spot a meat eater by their skin and sometimes they weigh more too, because of all that fat and cholesterol. I'm 55 and many people have told me that I don't look my age. All those fruits and vegies nourish the skin and give it plenty of nutrients to keep it young looking.

In health ... Werner.

I'm afraid I cannot agree with that. I always had a lovely pale skin as a meat eater - it's still not bad. Colin's and Peter's skins were never red, and they both have always had good skins as well. Also I'm no lightweight, unfortunately - too much good animal-free food!

You re right - your experiences make you what you are - and other peoples

experiences make them what they are. I had a small air rifle when I was

little (still have it, actually). I've only ever used it for targets, but

love it. I think that the trouble with families is that you think you

should be able to treat them badly and have them still love you, but it

doesn't always work that way. I think most parents would forgive their

children anything, but I don't think other relatives are so forgiving

amongst themselves.

I missed that lot really - having kids!

Mine was more Beatles and Stones, Jazz cafe's, coffee bars, black polo neck

jumpers - tight skirts, fishnet tights, stilleto winkle pickers etc.

I think that might be the case if you start young. I'm a terrible judge of peoples ages - can be at least 15 years out either way.

Jo

Well if it's any consolation, in that picture of you on your profile you still look quite young. 20's-ish. I have a theory that vegetarianism drastically slows the ageing process. I had my hair cut recently by a woman who was one year my senior. We looked at *least* 10 years apart! And my best friend (we became veggie together when we were freshman in high school) looks really young, too. Just a thought...

I have similar experiences. I am 23 and still in college (getting a 2nd

degree-I finished one a year ago). I was helping a friend of mine who just

starting teaching in the English dept. and she works with kids just out of high

school who need help before they start college english classes. When some of

the students saw me, they thought I was a student too. I'm sure it has

something to do with my diet.

Jojo,

it's not just a thought, it's a fact. Vegans do have better looking

skin. Most meaties have this red looking skin from eating meat. Vegans

have natural looking skin, like they've been out in the sun and fresh

air all day long. So you can always spot a meat eater by their skin and

sometimes they weigh more too, because of all that fat and cholesterol.

I'm 55 and many people have told me that I don't look my age. All those

fruits and vegies nourish the skin and give it plenty of nutrients to

keep it young looking.

In health ... Werner.

Werner,

Yeah, my hairdresser's skin was really ruddy and the quality of it -- her pores and all -- you'd have never guessed we were the same age! I tried not to act too surprised when she told me how old she was... It was hard to do, though :)

If I had a dollar for everytime someone has asked me if I was "in school" recently... I'd have at least five dollars ;)
