Part of being a vegetarian and caring for and all species for me is leading

a simpler life. Some of you may be interested in this course; there is

still room for a couple more.

Thanks, Richard Hawley

Please join us for a 9 week participant-led discussion course on Voluntary

Simplicity in Saratoga, April 13 - June 8. The focus is to explore the

meaning of simplicity, to make the connection between our lifestyle choices

and condition of the planet, and to look at the distractions, both material

and psychological, which hinder us from living for what is really important

to each person. Specifically the following weekly themes will be explored:

The Meaning of Simplicity The concept of simplicity and what are some

common misconceptions about a simple life.

Living More with Less When do material possessions add meaning to our

lives and when do they detract?

Your Money or Your Life The conflict between the desire to make and spend

money and the desire for a simple life. Why is that so difficult in our

culture?

Do You Have the Time? Are there alternatives to the fast pace of our

mainstream culture?

How Much Is Enough As a society, we engage in patterns of material

consumption that are damaging the environment. How much do we really need?

Swimming Against the Tide Our country's current guiding economic

principles push growth, consumption, and technological advance as

inextricable and desirable goals. In our efforts to live simply, we may feel

like we are swimming against the tide.

The Practice of Simplicity What steps can be taken to move toward a life

simple in means, rich in ends?

The course is developed by North West Earth Institute (www.nwei.org) and

will be coordinated by Richard Hawley. More information on the course is

available at the NWEI or the World Centric website

The NWEI courses are set up as participant-led informal discussions. On a

volunteer basis, participants take turns facilitating the discussion every

week. An excellent course reader is provided and the course offers an

enjoyable, supportive setting in which to examine personal values and

habits, engage in stimulating discussion, make friends, and consider

personal life-style changes if desired.

The fee is $30 and the course is limited to the first 15 participants.

Please register by calling (650) 856-2019 or emailing

courses and confirm registeration by April 7 by sending a

check payable to " World Centric " at 2211 Williams St, Palo Alto, CA 94306.

Thanks and please forward to others who may be interested.
