Guest guest
Hello fellow BA veggies, going to vegetarian potlucks, I notice there is usually too much food and it is left over in serving bowls. As we know, it is terrible to waste anything, especially food. It maybe impractical for the cook to eat it all, and (surprisingly enough) some shelter-type organisations won't accept such food. Facing this dilemma, I looked around the Internet for answers. Here enters Food-Not-Bombs www.foodnotbombs.net. These fine folk will take anything you throw at them! They cook vegan food only and feed the homeless in the streets. Local chapters are: East Bay c/o Long Haul, 3124 Shattuck, Berkeley,CA, 94705 510-644-4187 or 510/540-0751 ebfnb http://www.ebfnb.org/ serves: 2:30, M-F in People's Park in Berkeley Sunday at corner of 14th and Jefferson in downtown San Francisco P.O. Box 40485, San Francisco, California 94140, 1-415-675-9928 sffnb http://www.sffoodnotbombs.org/ Serves: Every night 6pm, UN Plaza (8th & Market); Mon. lunch Haight & Stanyan in GG Park. San Jose Phone:(408) 314-6669 foodnotbombs_sj Friday 2:30that's around when we start cooking. We cook at the First Christian Church in downtown SJ, which is on 5th and San Fernando, across the street from San Jose State. If you could bring the food over to us at the church, then we could keep it with us until we serve, which is usually around 4:30. In fact, you may want to serve the homeless with them; it will make your day I promise you. Money they don't have but heart there is aplenty. In SJ they cook in the shelter at First Christian Church noted above, and in fact you can leave your food there as well. The shelter has dinner served every day at 4:30 pm (stretching at least till 6). So, at least in South Bay, after those weekend potlucks, you can always go there Monday and both you and your leftover food will be most welcome. They have kitchen to heat things up. Please forward this to whomever else might be useful but I did not include Mark Galecki
