Guest guest
I just spoke to Dick Ford... in Mississippi. The eye of Katrina passed over their house when it was a category 2 storm. They are all safe... no floodingThere are lots of trees down. In fact, one fell on their house. Fortunately, it was slowed by a power line, which prevented major damage They remain without electricity... although Dick said it is being gradually restored in pockets... with utility trucks seen from (what seems) every US municipality! He has a laptop & generator... but limited access. They have phone lines... and an outside propane cooker to prepare meals... but nowhere to buy fresh food. Yesterday the local Wal-mart opened... but not much on their shelves. They are selling generators. People were without fresh water until Thursday... and many still have to boil water. The Ford's house (unlike most in that area) is built on a hill, with a basement and good drainage system. The 12 " concrete walls provide shelter from the storms (tornado last spring), as well as from the heat. Dick has tried to post on the group... and hopes to have access soon. Peace, Michelle << " mamacrocs " <angelas2 Re: hurricane - Has anyone heard from Dick Ford? Just noticed this post from last week & was wondering whether anyone has had contact with Dick Ford.... Angela Hurricane Katrina will be passing over our county later today; we expect power will be out for days. My house has a lower floor with very strong 12 " concrete walls; it is a tornado shelter where we've gathered my nearby family, including my elderly grandmother. We expect to be ok. Be kind. Be of good cheer. Dick Ford www.dick-ford.com >>
