I'm doing well with all the changes (both minor and major) toward a

healthier lifestyle. We've talked about just washing with water, lemons,

baking soda, etc. We've talked about whether to use soap and soap

alternatives. I'm at a loss as to what to use for a shaving cream when

shaving my legs. I know, from experience, that a straight razor with water

only will leave me with a razor burn I will be crying about for days. I'd

like to hear what others are using.

Megan adds:

have you thought of using some sort of raw oil as a lubricant when shaving?

you'd probably have to rince the razor more often, but at least you might

not have as bad razor burn as with just regular water.

_____

I realize that a man shaving his face may differ from a woman shaving legs,

etc., so not sure how these comments may help.

As my body has become cleaner, I've actually found that I really can shave

using nothing but water. But it's not just the water, it's the light

steam...I shave in the shower. I let the place steam up a bit, do other

things for a few minutes, let the rather warm water run over my face, then

shave my face. I've been doing this for years. And I also shave against the

grain, in other words, opposite the direction in which the hair lies.

Concerned about use of oil, clogs the pores.

Best,

Elchanan

Hi Megan & Elchanan,

I gave up using anything but water for shaving some fourty years ago,

and with cold water at that. I have never experienced any problems

through doing so and have experienced being able to continue to use a

safety razor many times before needing to discard it.

It may be as well to mention that when I was young I was fair headed.

When I adopted a natural Lifestyle my hair became much darker and I have

one photo taken 25 years ago in which it is black. Today it is white.
