RE: Going raw while breastfeeding? [s]

Hi again Colleen,

Another question just occured to me -- is it okay to suddenly go raw while

breastfeeding? I've heard that if you detox, it can come out in the

breastmilk, so detoxing while bfing isn't reccommended... is that so?

My older child is 2 and isn't at all dependent on breastmilk for the

nutrition, but my 7 mo is exclusively breastfed, no solids yet, so she is a

different story! I was concerned about switching my 2 yo to a raw diet being

a rough transition possibly -- now it occurs to me that perhaps it will be

rough on my baby as well!!

Any thoughts or advice?

_____

Our bodies are integral, everything interacts with everything. This is the

first meaning of holism. So whatever toxins are inside you are already

coming out through every available orifice. Your breasts, while nursing, are

open orifices. Your body will go to great lengths to redirect toxins through

other channels, but it cannot negate the laws of physics and chemistry

(diffusion, etc.)

Your body is constantly building new structures and providing new resources

to support its own biochemistry. It builds using whatever raw materials are

available. And you provide most of these raw materials in the foods you eat.

So the better the inputs, the better the structures.

Your breast-fed children share this experience. The quality of the raw

materials transmitted from your body to theirs directly influences the

quality of structures etc. their bodies can build. So switching to RF can

only help them, immediately and continuously. And just like you, their

bodies may cleanse a bit. They have accumulated far fewer toxins to cleanse,

but their vitality is likely higher, allowing their bodies to produce more

vital (i.e., stronger) responses once they get going. I'm not saying this

will happen, only that it might. Not knowing or seeing any of you in person,

it is impossible to do more than speculate abstractly. But in case of some

cleansing events, remain calm, be with them, embrace and love the symptoms,

because they are Nature's brilliant response and solution to conditions.

Know that all is well.

In a larger sense, you and Adam have the opportunity to do both yourselves

and your children a great service by adopting the cleanest, healthiest

lifestyle you can. This includes not only nutritional choices, but also

lifestyle choices -- physical activity, sleep and rest, sunshine, fresh air,

emotional poise. You can provide the cleanest possible physical environment,

letting go of as many commercial products of all kinds as possible --

cleaners and chemicals of every type. Household pollutants are by far the

largest source of airborne pollution in the lives of almost all Americans.

Also, info on raw food pregnancy would be helpful since I hope to get pg

again within a year. I saw the site with Jingee (sp?) and was inspired a lot

-- any other sites? Personal experience?

_____

In ideal circumstances, a father and mother would transition to a RF

lifestyle at least a year or two before creating a pregnancy. I've seem some

people do this quite intentionally, and it sounds as if you and Adam now

stand before a similar opportunity. As your own bodies become stronger and

more vital, your systems will literally begin to replace structures

containing degraded DNA with new structures containing at least partially

rejuvenated/restored DNA. Your fully hydrated and oxygenated cells will be

operating at full capacity, and all this vitality will become available to

support your next child, from conception forward.

This is a truly wonderful opportunity for you both!

Further, if you take this opportunity to allow and support your body's

cleansing and rebuilding. your menstrual cycles will change, your hormonal

output will become smooth and predictable, your emotions will stabilize, and

so forth. All of this augurs well for your next pregnancy.

Best to all,

Elchanan

For me, a large part of this journey has been the evolution of my faith and

trust. Perhaps these transcend the RF itself in many respects. I imagine

many of us share in this, one way or another.

Have a great day!

Elchanon, I was very encouraged by your reply to this... I do believe that

us becoming healthier can only benefit our children! Thanks for helping to

affirm that. I tend to second guess my instincts sometimes :-)

I agree with these suggestions. I buy the book Raw Family by the case and

give it away in classes and such, to people first exploring RF. Not for the

content as much as for the experience and spirit of this family, Victoria,

Igor, Sergei, and Valya Boutenko. Truly among the most remarkable people I

have ever known. And of course Storm and Jinjee are a great inspiration,

too!

Colleen,

Welcome to the list. You might want to check out Storm

and Jinjee Talifero's website at

www.thegardendiet.com.

Jinjee has four raw kids and had two raw pregnancies.

She writes about it on her website.

There is also a book I saw at the healthfood store

called Raw Kids which talks about transitioning kids

to a raw food diet (including food suggestions) so

that might be helpful as well.

Also, the book Raw Family (www.rawfamily.com) is good

too, it was written by a Russian-American family that

went raw all at the same time, and their experiences

with that.

Primal Mothering by Hygiea Halfmoon - I just finished it a few days

ago, WOW, she really brings it all to the surface. She discussed

the exact question you have about internal cleansing and

breastfeeding.

www.economads.com they are the reason I am where I am today,

finding the website was like finding the answers to life, they have

changed my perspective and given me the information and inspiration

to find the true answers: from within.

Hey, thanks, Lori! I don't know why I didn't remember that she was a

raw foodist! I never read her book but heard a great deal about her in

UC circles.
