However today I received my order for: " Cacao Nibs " from rawfood.com. I tasted them and they were " very " bland, however I could taste the resemblance to chocolate, albeit without all the added sugar. To make them more palatable, I added a date and a few drops of " Agave Nectar .. " Are these things bad to add and eat???? The date is dried and I presume still raw to a point, but I am still wondering about the " Agave Nectar??? " Anyway, I ate approximately a quarter of a cup (if that) and decided I wanted something like this available to me, if I get incredibly strong cravings for something sweet like chocolate or similar. I would appreciate any feedback. _____ From your comments, it sounds as if you like dates and agave nectar but not cacao beans. So the first and obvious conclusion is, don't eat the cacao beans. I could launch into a discussion about some of the chemicals they contain and such, but your taste buds have already told you what you need to know. Trust them, particularly when they report on a single food at a time. That's when they work best as a food vs. nonfood detection system. To my knowledge, agave nectar is basically concentrated juice from agave fruit. Better to visit a tropical location and eat the whole fruit. I don't know about the processing, such as pasteurization, but I would be inclined to read the fine print on the label or write to the company that bottles the product. And in any event, it is not a whole food, so I suggest thinking of it as a treat, not a staple in your program Don't know where you got the date, what type of date, age of date, storage conditions for date, etc., but in all likelihood it's fine.
