Guest guest
Hi all, I've d to the list to post this, but will have to shortly hereafter because of the amount of email (even digests) that comes from the list. I just can't keep up with it, and it has made me miss seeing other important email. I'll stay on for a day, but would prefer that folks email me directly if you have questions or comments, at cyberiaofss. I'm in the process of buying a house on a few acres outside of Memphis, and would like to have an extended family of folks to live there also. I'm not looking to develop a commune; We'd all be financially independent of each other. Whether people decide to commute into Memphis, work in the small town, or telecommute is up to them. If someone wants to try to develop an on-site business having a small organic herb garden, or making furniture, or some such home- based business, that's fine as well. I won't be offering work opportunities. And this isn't going to be an " us against the world " refuge. It's also not going to be about an agri-eco-homesteading- pioneer lifestyle. It's not off-grid. And personally, I'm not looking to go through a " livin off the land " struggle of building my home by myself from scratch and growing all my own food. Memphis has plenty of WIld Oats markets, juice bars, and Home Depot. I personally prefer to pay others to grow the organic produce and put the house together for me, so I can do what I do best. I know there are a LOT of people out there living alone in apts. or in houses, who would like to be with others, but aren't necessarily interested in picking one person and signing a contract to live alone with that one person forever. I've heard that can be lonely too (sometimes more so). I don't tell others how to live or eat, but don't want to live with meat-eaters because there's a certain amount of unconsciousness that goes along with it. It affects our planet, our economy, our rainforests, our animals, our health, and more. I don't live perfectly, but am striving to live consciously, and to have personal growth, and would like to live with others who are striving as well. I would be happy to invite and entertain other loving and peaceful, happy and laughing individuals, raw, vegan, or vegetarian into my new home, or better yet, to build on the land I will have. Because of the unfortunate reality that some people have no regard for the property, time,or space of others, there will be fees for those who come to visit or stay. This will not be a crash pad for wayward wanderers who don't know where to go or what to do with themselves, and are hoping to go from place to place getting fed and housed for as long as possible. Those who come are either moving in to the house, and paying rent, or building their own space on the land, or tent camping for a very small fee. Those who stay in the house just to visit will be expected to pay a fee, just as you would in a hotel (only cheaper;). This will not be a religious endeavor. I am a non-theist who believes strongly in treating others with absolute honor and respect. My path is one of reason and an eye toward the consequences (short and long- term) of my actions. I was a seeker of religious inquiry in my second and third decades. I am now at peace with my beliefs, and prefer to spend my time improving my ability to love rather than arguing about religion, gods and hell. I also do a fair amount of taking in lost dogs, cats born homeless, and abused or neglected farm animals. My intent is to get them well and neutered and placed in loving homes. Sometimes I don't find anyone for them, though, so they stay. On occasion, I've fostered young humans as well, but they never stay because they're part of the government system....whereas the government doesn't get involved in animal issues. Any humans who come to live with us would not be expected to take care of the animals, but would be expected to treat them with kindness and understanding. thanks! Ahimsa! CYberia aka Annette p.s. If you think this sounds great, but have prejudices about the south because your entire education about the south is based on movies (Hollywood loves to portray the ugly south of the 40's and 50's, and people love to see it so they can point and say, " glad we're nothing like THEM), OR you ARE more interested in living off-grid, in an ecovillage with others, then go to www.ic.org and you'll find plenty of communities all over the world. I will say that most are about raising and killing animals for food, though. You'll have to weed through them.
