Guest guest
I wanted to recommend a new book that was just released by a prominent vegan author Melanie Joy. It is about the psychology of meateaters called “Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows: An Introduction to Carnism,â€. I heard her speak at the animal rights conference in LA over the summer and she is very interesting. To quote the author, " Carnism is the belief system, or ideology, in which it’s considered acceptable to eat (certain) animals. It’s essentially the opposite of veganism. “Why We Love Dogs…†describes the mentality that enables people to eat meat by unmasking the belief system that underlies meat production and consumption. I strongly believe that framing meat eating not as matter of individual ethics or personal choice, but as the end result of a deeply ingrained belief system, will dramatically change the way we think and talk about eating animals. The book will also help vegans to help them understand the psychology of meat eating so they can better relate to the meat eaters in their lives, and to validate their choice of becoming vegan.
