What is Soya....I have not heard that one before.....I am just beginning...I do purchase TVP and use it in place of ground meat.....and we do eat a lot of beans....but I noticed that I am making them all the basic same way.....boiled with spices and then used as a soup.....I am trying to make my own refried beans...but they taste terrible....any ideas on how to make them right...?

Where would I find this....would it be in the natural foods department or would I have to go to a specialty store to find it?

Quinoa is a grain that's high protein, pulses are good & low fat.

Hmmmm. I wonder why not? I don't understand the surgery you've had, and

even if I did I am no medical person so . . . But 70 to 90 grams of

protein does seem a tad high, to be guilty of incredible understatement

*lol* Yes, do ask. And I'd be curious as to the answer.

Anyway, you've found a home here ;=) and we are so pleased to have you

Thanks for those links re protein the other day, Viv ;=) I have checked

the first two and put them up on our Links page (under Health) but the

Vegan Society Link is bringing up a blank page right now - they must be

working on it ;=) I'll check it out later.

Anyone else interested? Here they are again below.

Hi Brittany, I too am a beginner. The one thing that

has gotten me through is the frozen vegatable and lots

of fresh friut and home made lemonde instead of soda.

Everything I eat tastes really good. I do have any

particular recepies other than keep it really good and

try not to look for a meat replacement. What made me

change to being a vegatarian is the sheer taste of

meat changed. Plus I really don't like what has been

coming up regarding disease and stuff. The fish too

has been more contaminated than ever. So I know what

you mean as far as it being the right choice. Bye 4

now...

There's a bird here, a cockatiel, and a little dog, a Shih Tzu. I

give the dog a treat most every night I come home, a piece of people

food. Is it legal to keep a flying squirrel as a pet?

My daugher is so happy o have so many new veggie friends! Her school pals

are really interested in this " secret " veggie club she has with her friends.

Hopefully that newsgroup will get more action with our new members.

So glad we found you guys :) It makes being a vegetarian easier knowing

everyone battles with their in-laws, preschools, etc

Hi Virginia: Welcome aboard! another group you may like is cholesteroal_management. There is a wealth of information there as well as a lot of really great recipes for a lot of widely cultural healthy food. I also belong to this group and have found some really great recipes as well as information about eating healthy. I have just started 'turning vegetarian' after a lifetime of eating badly, and I find that I actually like it much better (not eating meat). In any event, welcome! PS I live in the middle of a city and would love to live in the 'hills.' I am so envious....Virginia Virkus <pig wrote: Just joined this group on a whim, cause i'm a "junk food" vegetarian who's looking for some quick, easy & more healthy recipes, ideas &

I'm a former 'alternachick' determined not to age gracefully. (my website, if you are really curious is www.dancingpig.com)Been an ovo lacto vegetarian since age 18. My culinary vices are cheese, bread & cookies. My main complaint after moving out to the hills from the suburbs of DC two years ago, is the lack of upscale food, both at the grocery store and restaurants as well. Pizza Hut & Dairy Queen are our only local eating out options. I really, really miss Indian food. Actually, i miss any good food, esp. pizza, that someone else has made for me!OK, babbled on long enough.Looking forward to this list.I'd especially welcome any tips & recipes for Indian food. mmmm, samosas...Blessings~Virginia in
