My suggestion is to ask yourself a different question: Why am I subjecting

myself and my child to this " doctor " ?

Chuck the doctor. He is working off " norm " charts without the slightest

regard for your child as an individual. Most kids are being fed growth

hormones. Your child is not (unless you are eating animal foods). So OF

COURSE your baby is " small for his/her age " . Be grateful ... and just keep

breast feeding. Human infants require no food other than breast milk until

much later, and then only in minimal quantities at first.

And for heaven's sake, don't feed your poor baby fat, and certainly not

insoluble/indigestible fiber (as occurs in all nuts and seeds).

Tahini and Infants

Greetings all!

I have a question about feeding my 8 month old. I am a raw foodist and I

nurse my son. His pediatrician keeps telling me he needs to gain more

weight. She wants me to feed him butter and yogurt for fat. I won't give him

butter and don't like the idea of yogurt. I was wondering if any of you have

fed your babies tahini. I have just recently introduced him to

avocado/banana/mango mixture that I make and cantaloupe and banana. Do any

of the parents here have suggestions for what is best to feed an infant. Is

yogurt a terrible idea? Also, I drink alot of acai and goji juice. Is that

okay to drink while nursing? Is there a holistic pediatrician in the

Washington d.c. area anyone can reccommend?

Elchanan,

You have to consider that she may not have enough milk.

I am glad you asked the key question - HOW far below the chart is the baby? If it just a pound or 2 below the normal lowest point then, I would not be concerned as you say. However, the last thing we want is another raw food baby death! so PLEASE don't tell someone they HAVE to do just breast milk like it's a SIN if they add in fruits and raw whole juices. In other tribes through out the world by the time the child is reaching out for food Mommy is taking (which is usually between 6 to 9 months), Mommy puts it in her own mouth to soften it and get her digestive enzymes on it and then puts it in the baby's mouth. The raw juices are already juices, in an easy form to absorb, it is only when they are not broken down enough that the allergies form. In theory and general principle I agree with you. But since we don't know how healthy the Mom is , I don't think what I suggested would cause ANY harm to the little one. The key (as I was wanting to make) is to get Mom's milk as healthy as possible, so let HER eat the raw nuts and seeds and avocado, etc. and pass on the nutrients to the baby.
