Struggling to eat health?

Ben,

I finished reading Dr. Joel Fuhrman's book, " Eat To Live " this last

week. One of the things he addressed in there that was really revealing

and helpful to me was that the eating habits of most Americans are

really more in support of addictions to drugs. Much of the food

available to us is designed to draw us in so we thirst for more as soon

as we are finished. Your craving for a Dick's burger is partly mental

but it is also a physical desire as well. Similar to a beer for an

alcoholic or a cigarette for a smoker. Or, even more addictive,

prescription or other drugs for the oppressed.

My family is about 90+% raw. When we do eat cooked food, we stick to a

vegan menu. I am closer to 95% raw and honestly feel better the more

raw I eat. I overcame stage 4 cancer 5 years ago this month following

the teachings of Hallelujah Acres (www.hacres.com). If you visit their

web site, you can find a suggested daily menu. One of the things they

highly suggest and that I have used daily is a dehydrated barley juice.

I met a couple last year in Ohio that was 100% raw but could not get

pregnant. I suggested they start taking the BarleyMax daily to increase

the nutritional content and balance of their diet which I believed would

have assisted in their conception ability but they refused. To date,

they are not pregnant that I have heard. Dr. Fuhrman strongly suggests

in his book that the dark green veggies are the most nutrient dense

foods on the plant. They are often not as fun to eat as a nice juice

piece of fruit or fresh red bell pepper but they need to be a large part

of our diet non-the-less.

The body does not recognize non-fiber foods such as many of the complex

carbs (highly processed foods) as an ingredient that fills us up thus

you can eat way more than you should without feeling satisfied. If you

eat simple carbs (most raw foods) which have lots of fiber, you body

recognizes those and will tell you when you are full. It is virtually

impossible to overeat on a diet of primarily raw foods. Interesting hu.
