I'm sure that would combine personal tastes with seasonal availability. I focus on greens and fruits. I often get the 3 pound bags of organic spring mix. I will occasionally get heads of romaine (even cases) or green/red leaf lettuce for variety. Less often I'll get some kale. For fruits, I recently have been buying cases of bananas. In between cases, I'll buy other fruits (even cases) for variety, like mangoes. >Would it be okay to switch up the kinds of fruits/veggies >every two weeks or so to keep variety in the diet? I suspect, as we evolved, we would eat what was in season and nearby, so we may have been eating a lot of a small number of food for many weeks, then switching to whatever else came in season, I'm sure our bodies are fine with going for a short stretch on a small number of foods, but that's just speculation. >Also, is coconut something that when you eat it fresh it's not real >sweet? While coconut may be flavorful and rich, it is not necessarily sweet. Both the young and mature coconuts can vary from not very sweet to sweet, though not the same level of sweetness of some fruits. Guest guest
Thanks Jeff. I am going to try getting a few things at the store today - like more greens to help with cravings as I'm nursing and don't want to crave things like potato chips and stuff. Maybe I'll get a mango and try one of those. Andrew already asked me to get more apples - we love apples and bananas here! I think the coconut tasted yucky - but I had it for a while. Where the water came out it was kind of yellow inside. I chucked it, and will try to get another one and see if it tastes any better. Guest guest
Hi everybody, I agree with the writer. I come from India. Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. But when we went to India, we only ate that was fresh available fruits and vegetables as per season. It was a ritual to go to the market first thing in the morning to buy fresh pick of the day. Dad normally went to the market. I got a thrill out of going to the market. We would by peas, cabbage, onions, spinach(variety of other greens that we don't get here in the US, potatoes, Okra, eggplant, papaya, apple, corn etc. Mango and some other fruit came from our own farm. So yes you can buy a lot of things and store them but buying fresh and eating fresh is always advantageous. Take care. Atul
