Guest guest
According to the book I read, a Rawfood diet consists of a large proportion of raw food, i.e. 80% raw, 20% lightly cooked. I'm not sure if that was the correct proportion because it's quite a while since I read the book. The reasons given were quite interesting, mainly to do with the goodness we get from raw food as opposed to cooked food, and the percentage of raw food needed to out-do the diminished nutrition in cooked food. ~~~~~ Ahh, understood. I kinda thought being a rawfoodist was like being a vegan you either " are " or you aren't. Like you can't call yourself a vegan if you eat dairy a few times a week. Ya know? I don't know much about the whole raw food thing which is why I ask stupid questions. =) Talisman

Guest guest
So what does that make me? If I'm a vegan and I eat a rawfood diet?! I just consider myself a vegan who chooses fresh fruit and salady foods. ;-) But if someone told me that raw meat would be fantastic for my health, then I'd tell them where to stick their advice! At the end of the day I'm a vegan and my current diet compliments my lifestyle but I wouldn't compromise my views for the sake of a *healthier* me through meat. Janey x > > Rawfood is a lifestyle. Guest guest
In that post I actually went on to answer my own question. I'm just a vegan. Fraggle is right, there are too many labels in life. Janey x > > So what does that make me? If I'm a vegan and I eat a rawfood diet?! > > A Vegan RawFoodist? Guest guest
Its nice to know that you're thinking along the same lines. Incorporating more fresh fruit etc into your diet is good for everybody to do. Its so much easier in the summer though with all the lovely local produce. Your veganism is a moral precept, so you don't eat any animal products at all. But your raw food diet is a lifestyle choice, so it's okay for you to have some cooked foods and still call yourself a raw foodie. All IMHO. Guest guest
Don't let them get to you Janey. How many of us can swear to being a 100% vegan 100% of the time anyway as much as we might try? I've been interested in fruitarianism/raw food diets for a while now but don't have the will power to give up my cooked stuff. So well done you! Guest guest
> How many of us can swear to being a 100% vegan 100% of the > time anyway as much as we might try? I think there is a difference between accidentally ingesting a non-vegan item vs. doing it on purpose. So again, I don't think you can call yourself a vegan if you ingest dairy products " once in a while " vs. I think it's perfectly acceptable to call yourself a vegan if you just realized what you ate had whey or something in it. Guest guest
I was referring to the accidental stuff and using stuff like photographic film (which I don't do any more since I got a digital camera). But I'm sure I sometimes eat stuff that's not vegan that I don't know is there. When I first went vegetarian, way back in 1970, I virtually lived on cheese & eggs. In those days there wasn't any vegetarian cheese around and I had no idea there was such a thing as rennet... Guest guest
Yes, I agree Talisman. I would never *knowingly* eat dairy or an animal product of some degree unless I was eating out and ate it by accident. This isn't such an issue for me now but if I go to Herbies (great veggie restaurant in Exeter) then I will eat something hot but I always make sure its vegan. Their vegan selection is fantastic. I don't tend to eat in *normal* restaurants these days, and at home I just eat fresh produce.
