Guest guest Report post Posted December 11, 2007 That happens to my husband when he works outside in hot weather for a long time. Those cramps are bad aren't they Cabrita. Your sound painful too. Sometimes I can feel that maybe I ate too much salt (mainly when eating out and feeling really thirsty after a restaurant meal?); however, I have had serious issues with not enough salt! This happened the first time during a strenuous 19 mile hike in hot weather, about 2 summers ago. One of my girlfriends and I ran out of salt (we did find water but had no extra salt and no Gatorade). After we came back from the hike to the car we experienced painful cramps, on our backs, our calves, shoulders, and right up the soles of our feet! It was really scary and unpleasant, they did go away after we had some electrolyte replacement and salty food. Anyway, now I make a point of taking some salty food, and yes, give me that salt, mainly in hot weather! I like morningstar burgers and I just put them in the freezer for times when I am really hungry and do not have much time to prepare food, just slice buns, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and we have burgers! It is also a very nice thing for non-veggie people to have available and feed us veg heads....so they are a blessing, and no, I do not use them very often either but I am grateful that all these nice producs exist now a days. Meal all done in a matter of a few minutes as I head out the door. I don't see where they are full of sodium and many of us have no sodium issue. If I didn't eat salt who knows how low my BP would be. I pour salt on everything and I have hypotension, so I say enjoy those veg burgers and find one that suits you. There are several brands out there. > Donna > Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile >
Guest guest Report post Posted December 11, 2007 Yes Judy, when it first happened it was strange, lack of salt when everybody worries about too much salt! You guys live in FL? it does get warm there too! It does not happen anymore since I take precautions now, tell hubby to pack some pretzels or some salty foods when he works outside in the heat, and of course lots of water. Gatorade also works for me. , " wwjd " <jtwigg wrote: > > That happens to my husband when he works outside in hot weather for a long time. Those cramps are bad aren't they Cabrita. Guest guest Report post Posted December 11, 2007 We live in southern Al, not far from the Florida line. It does get very warm here. Talk about warm, we are having breaking records for this time of year with record highs. It has been in the 80's for several days, with nights only 50's with heavy fog. With the heavy fog, you don't open the windows or the humidity makes you all clammy. I've had my AC on several days now, because of high humidity even in the day. It makes it feel even warmer. I'll have to have him eat some pretzels. He really goes thru the water when he is doing yard work. With our high humidity, you perspire a lot, especially men it seems. Gatorade is good too. He also loads up on potassium and magnesium to try and get things back to normal. He puts a heating pad on it and that helps the muscle cramp relax too.
