Do you have a recipe for ur break Peter? I'm curious how your bread is made nice without those things and ours is indeed like cardboard.

I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can still do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.

I'm not aware of any bakeries. There used to be one on Camelback and 32nd street, but they went out of business. Dang, I was trying to ignore my empty belly.peter hurd <swpgh01 wrote:

Can one assume then that you don't want to hear that we went and got some SF sourdough bread today and some organic tomatoes, lettue and avocados and that I'm going to pull some sprouts from the sprouter and make some yummy sandwiches for dinner???

Oh, and that spinach, romaine and endive tossed with slivers of carrots, red onion, celery, broccoli flowerettes and fresh cooked asparagus tossed with balsamic, red wine vinegar, spices and EVOO are the salad of choice tonight?

And that DH is in the kitchen making tortilla chips to go with some homemade salsa <<eg>>

Lynda, running and hiding!

I've never been able to go to Arizona Bread Co. It's a restaurant that's only open for lunch, can you believe that? I drove all the way to Tempe once and it was closed. Too bad, cuz it sure sounded good.fraggle <EBbrewpunx wrote:

It is a fungi. If it isn't vegan then I would think that mushrooms wouldn't

be either. Although it is unicellular and more closely related to algae and

mold <g>

strange...

you don't need a list here, as places all list ingredients on the bag, er on a placard next to the bin, shelf, cabinet, etc Jo Cwazy Sep 24, 2005 11:58 AM Re: My week as a loaf of bread........

A lot of them do. I send off for lists from Tescos etc. so that I know which ones are vegan. A lot of the baguettes use butter especially if they are called 'French'.

There's no ingredients on the store baked breads here. You can ask the person who cooks it though. Hopefully they will know if the flour they used is vegan!

I just got mixed up, cause one of my recipe books said

when I was making homemade pizza,,

said that I needed to feed the yeast, so it could grow?!?

so I gots to thinking, feed em? then trow em in the oven and

kill em? that can't be vegan?

thanks for clearing that up.

Oh, I know the answer to that one. I have a friend who is a Buddhist.

There are two theories. One is an old fable about a monk being tricked

about meat in a dish and he threw it out and the next morning garlic and an

onion were growing where the meat was. The other is that they are supposed

to encourage lust.

Some sects of Hinduism/ and Jains others use Aesofetida in place of onions and garlic in their cooking on religious grounds. It is a very strong ( not very nice ) smelling powder, but does the same thing to flavours as onions and garlic.

Certain sects in India, such as Jains and Hindu Brahmins, are forbidden to eat onion-related plants like garlic. The reasons differ in each case. Jains consider use of garlic to be too damaging to the plant, while some Hindus consider garlic too stimulating.

My Hare Krishna friend doesn't eat garlic, onions, chives or mushrooms - apparently because they are medicines ! He didn't have an answer for why you could not benefit from them all the time.

My herbalist considers using herbs that are used for medicine in your cooking to be the same as using antibiotics for every little sniffle -- when you really need them they no longer work because you've used them for so long.
