Guest guest
I have mainly found people on bikes to be very inconsiderate of pedestrians and quite a nuisance when riding on pavements. My other gripe is that a bike may be on the road one minute acting, as it should, like a vehicle, and then going across pedestrian crossings etc. like a pedestrian. I hope that the case makes bike riders think about what they are doing, and helps them decide to leave the footpaths to the pedestrians (particularly in towns). Guest guest
You don't get arrested in the U.S. for riding bikes on the sidewalks but in most states you will get a ticket and have to pay a fine. I don't mind small children on their little bicycles because I don't think they belong on the streets competing with cars. However, I have a strong urge to give big kids and adults a strong shove when they go by! Guest guest
Only in some cities and only some cops. If they were serious about it you wouldn't read about one to five folks each day getting hit by cars as they are jaywalking. I think in some cities it is considered a sport. Folks wait till the last minute to dart across the street and drivers keep their eyes alert for any human motion and aim for it. The pedestrian that makes it safely across the most times wins. Guest guest
LOL! I reckon that's what happens here. Guest guest
There are a few bad motorcycle riders, but mostly it's pushbike riders that are a nuisance. I think if you are on a vehicle, and a pushbike is a vehicle, you should behave like a vehicle and not ride through all the red lights etc. which is what happens 90% of the time in London. It's 35 years since we had a motorbike - an old BSA. I wonder what it's like to ride in all the traffic nowadays! Guest guest
Pavements are meant to be safe places for people to walk along. If cyclists use them without dismounting they are not safe. Why is it more important for a cyclist to be happy than for a pedestrian to be safe? Guest guest
Not here. I'm very frustrated by all the peop who run out in front of me, across 6 or 7 lanes of traffic, usually with their young kids being drug along side of them. All too often on the news we hear of them getting hit. I often feel like getting out of my truck, going up to them and asking why they didn't use the dang crosswalk that is so close by!Jo Cwazy <heartwork wrote: Is it true that the police are really hot on jaywalking in the States???Jo-"fraggle" <EBbrewpunxWednesday, August 17, 2005 5:09 PMRe: Re: URGENT COURTHERING - For those who live inLondon or are here Thursday>> depends on who you are..i've seen folks arrested fer riding on thesidewalk> i've also seen cops let car drivers go after they slam into bikeriders......> > Lynda <lurine> Aug 17, 2005 7:20 AM> > Re: Re: URGENT COURTHERING - For those who live inLondon or are here Thursday>> You don't get arrested in the U.S. for riding bikes on the sidewalks butin> most states you will get a ticket and have to pay a fine. Guest guest
Ah, so that's what it is! Gee, I wasn't aware of that and have been spoiling the game taking evasive action and locking up my brakes to avoid the peds! Someone should have told me the rules beforehand. Who do I complain to about that?Lynda <lurine wrote: Only in some cities and only some cops. If they were serious about it youwouldn't read about one to five folks each day getting hit by cars as theyare jaywalking. I think in some cities it is considered a sport. Folkswait till the last minute to dart across the street and drivers keep theireyes alert for any human motion and aim for it. The pedestrian that makesit safely across the most times wins.Lynda-Jo Cwazy <heartworkWednesday, August 17, 2005 11:19 AMRe: Re: URGENT COURTHERING - For those who live inLondon or are here Thursday> Is it true that the police are really hot on jaywalking in the States???>> Jo>> -> "fraggle" <EBbrewpunx> > Wednesday, August 17, 2005 5:09 PM> Re: Re: URGENT COURTHERING - For those who live in> London or are here Thursday>>> >> > depends on who you are..i've seen folks arrested fer riding on the> sidewalk> > i've also seen cops let car drivers go after they slam into bike> riders......> > > > Lynda <lurine> > Aug 17, 2005 7:20 AM> > > > Re: Re: URGENT COURTHERING - For those who live in> London or are here Thursday> >> > You don't get arrested in the U.S. for riding bikes on the sidewalks but> in> > most states you will get a ticket and have to pay a fine. Guest guest
thats wot i guessed the surface of a road here is called the pavement... Jo Cwazy Aug 17, 2005 12:47 PM Re: Re: URGENT COURTHERING - For those who live in London or are here Thursday Pavement - path - sidewalk ??? Jo - fraggle Wednesday, August 17, 2005 7:43 PM Re: Re: URGENT COURTHERING - For those who live in London or are here Thursday i take it pavement means something else over across the pond then pavement is wot roads are made of ..... Jo Cwazy Aug 17, 2005 11:26 AM Re: Re: URGENT COURTHERING - For those who live in London or are here Thursday In that case you should get off your bike and push it on the pavement or you on the pavement with the bike on the side of the road. Pavements are supposedly safe places for pedestrians. Guest guest
ok.. wot the heck is a pushbike then? Jo Cwazy Aug 17, 2005 1:16 PM Re: Re: URGENT COURTHERING - For those who live in London or are here Thursday There are a few bad motorcycle riders, but mostly it's pushbike riders that are a nuisance. Jo - fraggle Wednesday, August 17, 2005 8:13 PM Re: Re: URGENT COURTHERING - For those who live in London or are here Thursday very true must be much worse in phoenix.. here they at least have some bike lanes.... ain't a whole heck of a lot better on a motorcycle...takin my lil life into my own paws every single day... Jonnie Hellens Aug 17, 2005 12:12 PM Re: Re: URGENT COURTHERING - For those who live in London or are here Thursday Here you really take your life in your hands if you ride ur bike on the street. Guest guest
Jaywalking is required and obligatory in nyc. It simply must be done. There, we show the cars that pedestrians rule! People, there OWN the streets. Guest guest
Portland, OR. They even had (when we lived there, don't know about now) the street lights set so that cars had two turns and then pedestrians had a free for all turn!
