There is another side to this issue also. Due to drought etc., several

cattle get abandoned, left to fend for themselves and face challenges,

this is a modern issue however. For the most part, those with Cattle

try to do their best, specially in the past they did a very good job.

So what happens to the calves?

As I understand it, the massive quantities of cattle roaming around are the

major cause of the polluted waters.

Not only that, in a very poor country it seems to me that it would be all

around better if the dairy industry was phased out since that is a major

welfare expense with the subsidies paid to the dairy farmers. Remove the

cattle, remove the pollution, put the land into more productive ag.

I HAVE seen it with my own eyes. I have also raised cattle. The critters

are notoriously stubborn. And, with a surplus of flies such as India has,

the critters are also notorious for suddenly sticking their heads and tails

in the air, bellowing and taking off for parts unknown!

As to plowing with them. I have also seen the sores and hoof rot from those

rice fields. Not a pretty picture. And what you aren't mentioning is the

increasing leather industry in India. More of the bull calves go for that

than end up plowing.

Also, you can only keep so many animals and you reach critical mass. India

has reached that point.

For sure several animals domestic and otherwise get diseases in their

lives. The sincere people try to help the best they can.

Also there are those who eat beef, what they do is a different story

and yes the Leather Industry for sure is a sad state of affairs.

India/The World have reached critical mass in regards to several

things. Not possible to control these things by force.

Stray cattle for sure cause some pollution and safety issues. This

needs to be addressed as humanely as possible.

There are poor parts in India. But India is not poor. There are people

who can afford a home in New York but can't afford one in Bombay or

Delhi. India is a huge economy in Progress. Due to outsourcing India

has gained several Industries. Lots of companies and lots of developments.

The founder of Reliance Industries for eg., Dhirubhai Ambhani was

rated as one of the Top Rich people in Forbes. The Hindujas from UK

own Ashok Leyland which is very huge.

All countries, regardless of the balance of their status, have rich

*individuals.* Overall, the divide between rich and poor is vast. The

countries spends lots on " welfare " to those dairy farmers.

40% are rich and 30% to 60% are poor. Indians prefer a simple life,

don't like to show their wealth and achievements in general. Also, the

Western Media prefers to portray India as a poor Country.

By the way, you might have seen treatment of Cattle in the US, not in

India specially a few decades ago.

Any sites in regards to dairy farmers being on welfare in India would

be appreciated.

It is a different type of person with a different frame of mind

doing the " whacking " . This to me sounds like people of one mind with

the earth and nature around them guiding the cows.

I truly believe this is possible and would think it would be quite

enlightening. I would love to experience the walking with them part.

Not the milking tho.
