Apparently there are 37 people dead, so far. There are several dozen

with injuries so severe that they are not expected to live. There are

700 injured. The transport system is mainly working again apart from

the areas immediately affected.

One can't helping wondering whether Bush felt that if a disaster had to

happen it was convenient it happened on the day climate change was

meant to be discussed.

Hi Jo

Personally I think that he is pleased no matter when it happened.

Not to say that I think he likes people getting hurt, but this only

strengthens his constant shouts that we have to " fight the terror " .

And I swear if I hear one more person on the t.v. say " we have to be

viligent " I am going to scream! (again)

They had the President, City of Chicago Mayor, task force leaders,

Homeland Security and various other " leaders " on the news all day

yesterday and everyone of them must have used the word " viligant " 6

times in 10 seconds!

Hi Nikki

That's what they are saying here too. Anyone would think it is the

first bomb we've ever had! We had years of being searched going into

places like museums etc. in case we were IRA bombers, and because of

bombs put in waste bins it was always a bit worrying walking along

the street by bins, until they removed all the bins, of course.

The bombings are a terrible thing - but unfortunately one of many

terrible things that happen.

the dozens would be a fair trade and world improvement!

A friend is as beyond irritated at the use of that word and the constant " we

are at war " as I am. She did put something up on her blog, partially

because she is irritated and partically because she was raised in London and

quite upset. What she has to say to Fox news says it all! Here's the link:

Ah, is it possible for the folks on the other side of the pond to drown or

otherwise " deal with " Christopher Hitchins? He is every bit as big an ass

as O'Lie Lee and Dumbya!

try not to scream at the monitor to much

FOX News Hosts Celebrate London Attacks

During their coverage of the breaking news events yesterday, several FOX News

hosts or reporters made comments that are raising some eyebrows. The network's

Washington Managing Editor Brit Hume told host Shepard Smith, that when he heard

about the London bombings, he saw it as an investment opportunity:

" I mean, my first thought when I heard -- just on a personal basis, when I heard

there had been this attack and I saw the futures this morning, which were really

in the tank, I thought, " Hmmm, time to buy. " Others may have thought that as

well. "

Meanwhile, one of the network's anchors, Brian Kilmeade, said the attacks worked

to the Western world's advantage and he blasted the international gathering at

the G8 for focusing on global warming and African aid instead of terrorism. Here

is some of what he said right after Tony Blair spoke yesterday. This is FOX

anchor Brian Kilmeade talking to another FOX's Paul Varney:

KILMEADE: And that was the first time since 9-11 when they should know, and they

do know now, that terrorism should be Number 1. But it's important for them all

to be together. I think that works to our advantage, in the Western world's

advantage, for people to experience something like this together, just 500 miles

from where the attacks have happened. "

VARNEY: It puts the Number 1 issue right back on the front burner right at the

point where all these world leaders are meeting. It takes global warming off the

front burner. It takes African aid off the front burner. It sticks terrorism and

the fight on the war on terror, right up front all over again.

KILMEADE: Yeah.

FOX News hosts Brian Kilmeade and Paul Varney, speaking yesterday on FOX.

Thanks Fraggle.

This doesn't surprise me. I am hoping that they have midjudged the general

feelings. While watching the news last night the feeling that seemed to

surface more often than others was - that our governments have brought the

terrorist attacks on us, and that if the west stopped interfering in the

Arab countries we would be less likely to be targets. At first I thought

that George Galloway would be the only one to say it, but he wasn't.

Hi Fraggle

> and..i'll keep my thoughts to myself on some of the aspects of this

bombing...

Please share (if you're not happy to do it on the list, then at least to me,

because I doubt you'll be far from what I'm thinking)...

For what it's worth, I will share my thoughts:

I'm going to say some pretty controversial stuff on this, but I reckon since

it's happened in the country I live in, in tube stations which I've passed

through a number of times, and in a town which I lived within 20 miles of

for the first 30 years of my life, and in which I have a number of friends

and family, I think I can do so without being criticised of not caring about

the people affected.

It strikes me that this has been timed so perfectly for the British

government, that they have to stand out as the most likely candidates for

being the aggressors.... there are a number of reasons why the timing was

perfect for them:

1. The government is currently trying to push through a bill which would

make it illegal for private citizens to leave their homes without carrying

an ID card which contains details of their DNA, retinal scans, fingerprints,

etc. They have been arguing that this is needed to counter terrorism

(although can't quite explain how), and just last week the first reading of

the bill was passed by the smallest majority the current government has ever

had. It was generally believed that it would fail at the second reading, and

having a terrorist attack at just this moment is likely to swing the opinion

of the less-intelligent public and MPs in favour of ID cards.

2. Noises have been made by quite some time by the US government which seem

to point to an imminent invasion of Iraq. The UK government have been saying

that they wouldn't be involved in any such invasion, but behind the scenes,

there seems to have been support for the US stance, and the government would

need something to swing public opinion behind sending troops to support any

imminent US invasion... I believe the phrase " Pearl Harbour " is the most

appropriate here!

3. With the G8 in progress, and with huge pressure from the UK public to do

something about world poverty and climate change, the attack in London was

the perfect excuse for Blair to leave the G8 summit, and avoid discussion of

these issues. As a result, the agreements which have been reached do not

come close to the demands of the British public, but this has been forgotten

in the wake of the London attacks.

Combine this with the fact that Tony Blair is desperately trying to get his

name in the history books as the 21st century Winston Churchill, and it all

adds up to the probability that he wouldn't stop at the death of a few

hundred people in order to achieve his goals.

Hi Fraggle

Well, screams out the way...

> he blasted the international gathering at the G8 for focusing on global

warming and African aid instead of terrorism.

Shame he doesn't know what he's talking about... probably the majority of

banners in marches are anti-terrorism, and I don't think there was a single

person there who wouldn't like to see the worst terrorists removed from

power.

OMG, you mean the Florida virus has envaded your side of the pond?

Florida virus: at times of hurricane, as soon as people are told to get ready the price of gas goes up as much as a $1 a gallon and the price of plywood and corregated metal (to board up windows, etc.) the prices are jacked up 2 to 5 times the normal price! Bottled water, which normally goes for about $2.50 a gallon is suddenly $10/gallon, etc., etc., etc.

This countrys not so morally squeeky clean either, I heard that on the day the local hotels when confornted by hundreds of people unable to travel, seeking accomodation for the night , responded by hiking up their prices.......things like that make me so angry, I just have to listen to Rage Against The Machine at extreme volume!

they had some interviews on the radio the day of the event.

one barrister who was in the tube when it happened was being interviewed,

describing all the damage, the wounded, etc, and the reporter asked " so, what do

you think about the people who did this?'

and he said

" i pity them "

the reporter goes " huh "

" i pity them, because you have to have pity for anyone who could do such a

heinous act "

now..on this side of the pond, the standard reply would be..

" %$$ & ^ & ^% & %! bomb iran! "

I think most people over here would say they pity them. They would be angry

as well though.

This reminds me of a commercial we have here were a guy is standing

in line at his local bank and the teller staples a bar code to his

forehead and then scans him later. The commercial is saying that

their bank doesn't treat you like the bank shown, as just another

number.

Pretty much the same concept.

I'm surprised we haven't gotten to the point where all new babies

cannot leave the hospital without first receiving their barcode

Actually, Nikki, they've been trying for years to convince folks to chip

their babies. The chips that they put in pets was designed for use in

humans. They couldn't sell the concept to humans, so they are currently

making money off pets. HOWEVER, they routinely run an ad campaign using

scare tactics with the intent of eventually chipping all human babies.

Kidnapping, doncha know. Yeah, right! $$$$$$ is their only concern!
