Guest guest
Just remove one thing a week. After a week you should see an improvement and if you don't then put that item back in there diet and remove something else. It will take some time. Common allergies Egg milk soy wheat bananas strawberries peanuts walnuts - pecans Another sign that your are allergic to a food is when you eat it your mouth has a slight itchy feeling. Bananas do that to me and my tong itches like crazy. And if you are giving the allergy medicine then then this process won't work because the medicine will mask the symptoms. Plus for me allergy medicine make my circles worse. So talk to the doctor and see if you can take them off Claritin. On 5/31/07, Steph <mrswalp29 wrote: > > how do you know what to eliminate? Guest guest
Hi Steph, I don't have any suggestions, but I just wanted to let you know that I've suffered from " raccoon eyes " since I was about 11 years old, I'm 31 now. As a child I had asthma, out grew that and then moved onto both seasonal/pet allergies. My doctors growing up would always contribute the darkness around my eyes to those two factors, however, my allergies have been under control for many years and I still have the darkness. Doctors now as an adult tell me it's just something that is common in some people and that it can be a number of reasons. If you have had a nutritionist look over the diets then the only other thing you should really do it the complete check up. But it could also be environmental, a sensitivity to pollution in the air or even the fairness of skin compared to eye color can make the darkness appear darker than it really is. Basically what I'm saying is as long as they come back with good bills of health don't worry about it. I realize your concern, as I had my parents/grandparents/complete strangers comment on the darkness over the years, but sometimes it's really just nothing you can deal with other than teaching them, and yourself to have a thick skin. Some snazzy comebacks to people's crass comments help too. Good luck to you! I haven't read everyone's replies, but I'm sure you will get some great tips. Carren , Steph <mrswalp29 wrote: > > I know, I know I have already wrote about this but I am very frustrated on this. My children have dark raccoon eyes they look horrible. My girlfriend who is a vegan and have beautiful pale non-raccoon eyed children swears by Barley Green and 1 T of brewer's yeast each day. The problem is both of those are gross and my boys won't touch it. I brought a one week diary to the nutritionist and she said we eat better then most people and " maybe some people need animal protein to ensure proper health " It puts a mom in a rough spot so I thought I would ask yet again if anyone has anything they add in their children's diets to prevent them from looking so ill. I am sick of the comments and frankly looking at my kids makes me feel like I am doing something wrong since they look so bad. Thanks > Steph > > > > Be a better Globetrotter. Guest guest
WHAT!!! Find a new doctor, right away. There is NO reason at all for a doctor to not do the allergy test. It helps! As you know from my other post, I have been suffering from allergies for most of my life, and Claritin does not work for me (not saying it won't for your children). But my point is, not all allergy medications are the same and if you can get them tested to see exactly what they are allergic to you won't have to put them on and off different medications! Or better yet, you might be able to bypass medication all together and just get rid of what they are allergic too! Kick your doctor for me. Guest guest
If your doctor won't test for allergies then its time to think about changing doctors. I am allergic to mold, mildew, dust, dust mites, trees, grass, pollen, cats, horses, and dogs. In other words, I should be living in a bubble. What my allergy doctor never told me was the following: 1. If you're allergic to pollen you shouldn't eat certain flowering fruits (i.e. honeydew, cantelope [sp], bananas, etc) 2. If you're allergic to trees you shouldn't be eating maple syrup, or other tree based food. 3. If you're allergic to mold you shouldn't be eating any type of cheese at all (cheese is bad for everyone whether they're allergic to mold or not) In other words, you should be making certain that the foods you eat do not contain the items you're allergic to. Perhaps changing certain things in your child's diet will help with the issues. I would still push for allergy testing though. I don't think it's healthy for small children to take strong allergy medication just because the doctor doesn't want to look into the cause. I buy Claritin RediTabs at BJ's, but as I stated above I have pretty severe allergies and asthma. A box of 40 costs about $20 (one tab per day). , Steph <mrswalp29 wrote: > > how do you know what to eliminate? Their doctor won't do allergy testing. Guest guest
My children's doctor says the dark eyes are from us having very light skin and the tissue under the eyes being thin and so a dark pigment of the blood vessel shine through. The thing is I rarely have dark circles only when I don't sleep enough or drink enough. You know when people have sleep apnea (sp?) their eyes are dark all around that is my kids. She says they probably do have seasonal allergies but I want to know what they are. She did tell me like one of the ladies here mentioned if it was food allergy they would have a itchy mouth or hives or something. I found it really interesting how someone mentioned about the different outdoor allergy go with the food we eat. I am going to look into that one more. I wih our insurance didnt call for a refurrel or else I would bi-pass the doctor and get it all done. Steph Take the Internet to Go: Go puts the Internet in your pocket: mail, news, photos & more. Guest guest
Depending on what you're allergic to, you should avoid certain herbal teas as well. I'm allergic to everything grass/hay related, and I was causing unnecessary suffering by drinking chamomile tea, without thinking about it. Dandelion tea - although it has wonderful properties - can cause suffering for those that suffer from hay fever, too. Once you know what to look for, it's pretty much common sense from there! Not that your kids are drinking tea, but you never know! On Behalf Of Tina M. Guest guest
My kiddos don't drink tea unless it is christmas time and they love the candycane tea but for my kids I don't even know where to start. Guest guest
Hi folks. I started to experiment (for lack of better words) on my daughter with this and found out a few things. If I gave her an allergy tablet an hour or so before bed (they can cause drowsiness) she would wake up in the morning with less circles under her eyes and sometimes NO circles. No sniffing or that occassional hach hack to clear her throat. This leads me to believe the problem could partially be dust in the room or mattress. We also have a cat but he is out side 3/4 of the time. So far following this I have also noticed she doesnt rub her eyes as much during the day or blow her nose much either. I dont feel a pill every night is a good thing so I have been giving it when I notice the sniffies are back and then comes the circles. She gets it about 3 times a week. Right now its allergy season here so I am watching. Peppermint tea or any herbal tea with a good decongestant action would be alright at bed time too and probably give them a soothing nights sleep. -:¦:-..· ´¨¨)) -:¦:-¸¸.·´¨ (¨`·.·´¨) `·.¸.· dj -:¦:- ¸¸.·´¨ ((¸¸.·´¨ ..·´ -:¦:- ¸¸.·´¨ -:¦:- ((¸¸.·´* chartered herbalist in canada - Steph Saturday, June 02, 2007 7:06 AM RE: Re: O.T Raccoon Eyes My kiddos don't drink tea unless it is christmas time and they love the candycane tea but for my kids I don't even know where to start. Guest guest
When this happens to me it's usually my iron issues acting up. I take iron supplements and add more iron rich foods and poof, I look better. - Stephanie Thursday, May 31, 2007 9:44 AM Re: O.T Raccoon Eyes I would be very interested in this too. My daughter has the same under her eyes. My husband is worried, he says she looks like she always has " black eyes " , like she was hit. I have noticed that since I became vegetarian, I have them too. My husband says I look sick. I feel fine but maybe something isn't right? Guest guest
Hi, Jenn here.. New to the group... I heard years ago that 'raccoon eyes' was a sign of Vitamin K deficiency... Don't know where I read it or how I happened upon the info, but it might be something you can research. My nephew always got raccoon eyes right before getting his migraines, which may possibly explain the deficiency theory... Who knows? Good luck, ~Jenn ---- Aine P Massie 06/05/07 19:46:45 Re: Re: O.T Raccoon Eyes When this happens to me it's usually my iron issues acting up. Guest guest
Dark circles under the eyes are often formed due to accumulation of toxins in body. Dark circles under the eyes are a sign that your liver or kidneys are carrying a toxic load. You've heard of eyes being referred to as " windows to your soul " ? Well, think of your dark under eye circles as " windows to your filtration system " . Drink lots of water(8-10 glasses for an adult) and make sure your body is eliminating wastes properly on a daily basis. It speeds up circulation and all functions of the body work much better with plenty of water. Do light facial massage to bring blood circulation to the face and eye area. This also helps to move toxin along and out of the body. Certain nutritition helps improved skin textures and sometimes brighter looking eyes sometimes. These include flavonoids, found in hesperidin, rose hips, vitamin F, bee pollen, royal jelly, vitamin B5 panthenol (or pantothenic acid), gingko, chitosan, inositol B8, oatmeal (high in silicon), and most importantly vitamin C in the form of sodium ascorbate, which is an alkaline form of vitamin C. These all will help repair damage tissues and reduce allergies. Gingko helps with microcirculation and thus repair. Eat a well balanced diet of veggies and fruits with lots of fiber. Get 7-8 hrs of sleep at least per night and more for children. This I found very interesting and I am going to use my stainless steel pot to boil water in from now on. Boiling that water in the old teapot, creates more free radical metals, which could be tin, iron, etc. An easy way to tell is to get a laser pointer and look at the lights passing through it. If you can see it, more clearly after you boil it, then that is the source of heavy metals which of course might be free radical metals and cause dark circles under they eyes, because that is a sensitive part of your body and the skin is already thin. Replace any rusty facets and copper pipes. Use 2 T. of Black Strap Molasses daily. Read more about all the things it helps with, including dark under eye areas.. http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/molasses.html Too much sun can also cause under eye circles. One additional cause is bone structure: persons with deep set eyes sometimes appear to have shadows under their eyes. An overproduction of melanin can also cause dark shadows under the eyes Here is a great article on dark circles. Well worth the read. http://au.answers./question/index?qid=20070525051753AAxBjb8 Hope these ideas help you. Judy

Guest guest
You're very welcome. I hope it helps. It is interesting to know that their are alkaline forms of Vitamin C and not just the acid kind like in citrus fruits isn't it?
