Guest guest
Earlier this year, the GE-Free Sonoma County campaign submitted a record 45,387 signatures to place on the ballot a county-wide 10-year moratorium on planting, growing, selling or distributing transgenic organisms. This shattered the previous county record of 33,000 signatures! Because so many signatures were turned in (about 20% of all voters in the county signed the petition), the county will most likely call a special election to be held sometime in 2005. To read the initiative language, go to www.gefreeson oma.org. " The Count " GE-Free county ballot initiatives passed = 2 (Mendocino and Marin) GE-Free ordinance passed by a County Board of Supervisors = 1 (Trinity) GE-Free ordinance passed by a City Council = 1 (Arcata) GE-Free county ballot initiatives lost = 3 (Butte, Humboldt and San Luis Obispo) Pro-GE ordinance passed by County Board of Supervisors = 1 (Fresno) To find out how you can get involved in your area, contact Californians for GE-Free Agriculture at calgefree. What you see is what you get You've made your bed, you better lie in it You choose your leaders and place your trust As their lies wash you down and their promises rust You'll see kidney machines replaced by rockets and guns And the public wants what the public gets But I don't get what this society wants
