Guest guest
As a vegan who also has to eat low fat I seldom eat out unless the business has a nutrition guide for me to view. I was out and about last week shopping and got really hungry and remembered that Burger King has a " veggie burger. " I ordered one at the drive through and when I got it I asked for their nutrition guide. The veggie burger itself (bun, pattie, condiments) is listed as " non- vegan. " That part I figured out because, unbeknownst to me and I didn't ask, it had mayonnaise on it. Then there was a breakdown of each of their items. The veggie patty also stated that it was non-vegan because it contained milk and/or eggs (not sure now which) yet it was a Morning Star product. It gave all the ingredients for the pattie and there was nothing in there that I could find that made it non-vegan. Then I looked at the bun ingredients and it was also vegan safe. Just wondered if anyone else has checked it out because it was really good and made a quick filler-upper during this busy season. If the bun and patty are truly vegan I could just leave off the mayo and have them add mustard. Thanks, ~Sylvia

Guest guest
Morning Star Farm veggie burgers are not vegan. The 'vegan' ones , of course are, but the original patties are not. I'm pretty sure there are eggs in them. cheryl --- jenntinysam <jlbart1974 wrote: > I found the listings for whats in the patty, bun and > mayo if you > would like me to I will send it in.. > > Jenn B > > , " Sylvia > Sivley " > <sgsivley wrote: > > > > As a vegan who also has to eat low fat I seldom > eat out unless > the > > business has a nutrition guide for me to view. > > I was out and about last week shopping and got > really hungry and > > remembered that Burger King has a " veggie burger. Guest guest
They have tol me that they put it either in the microwave or toast in a seperate area of the grill that they toast the bread on, not where any meat has been cooked. Hope this make you feel better. It sure did me. I always ask that they do it this way and they have assured me at several different locations that they do it this way. You should still request it at your location though, to be safe. Guest guest
is that the same area every day, does that area have a barrier that keeps the grease from the meat from spreading and are the buns " buttered " . I have found that MOST fast food type places have no idea how careful you have to been to keep things vegan. I have actually had a baker tell me there is no milk products in her baking of a coffee cake but and when I asked her for a list of the ingredients there was sour cream, No milk products. Guest guest
Do you all really trust that BK is making your veggie burgers vegan? Of course they will tell us what we want to hear but I just can't imagine them actually cooking the vegan burgers on a little piece of the grill that has not been touched by meat grease. I've worked in restaurants and believe me, on a busy day, nobody back there is making sure this happens. I wish they did but its not realistic, in my opinion. Guest guest
I definitely agree here. I don't expect these places to cater to me as they're not really specialized for us - I mean, come on, Hardee's makes their money off advertising how much meat they can put on one sandwich. It's nice though that a few places (like BK and Subway) have given us at least a little bit of an option. It's also nice for me personally, so when I'm out with friends and they wanna go out to eat, I can suggest one of these places so I'm not the odd one out. Subway is just up the street from me and just about EVERY teenager you'll meet around here loves it, so it's a great choice for me and my friends, because we can all get something we like. -Sara In a message dated 12/11/2006 6:43:12 P.M. I feel the fast food chain is the meat eaters paradise so I have no room to complain, I just make do as best I can if I have to. I usually just ask for a bun and have mustard or mayo, lettuce, onion and tomato, and Carl's JR or Burger King or Jack in the Box will charge 35 cents for it. Guest guest
The one big problem I see with BK veggie burger is the white enriched flour bun. I have tried it (mine was practically cold, because obviously it was just quickly tossed on the grill), but it would be so much healthier on a whole wheat bun (don't think they put anything on a healthy bun...:-). Guest guest
Has anyone thought of going to a regular grocery with a health foodsection? Go there and get a frozen food or get a dried food Like Nile soups or Fantastic soups. I am not a microwave fan but I believe heating up some water or heating frozen foods would be much healthier and tastier than BK any day. Guest guest
Hi Sara, You know I frequent 2 long time vegetarian restaurants near me, now and then a group of vegetarians will be eating at a table and have a meat eater friend along, nothing worst than hearing, " say don't you even have some chicken, come on how about some tuna? " So I think for the fast food chain to even offer us a veg. burger is a giant step in the right direction, a vegetarian restaurant certainly doesn't have a meat item on their menu or a tuna sandwich waiting for the meat eater that came along to enjoy lunch with his friends. Subway sure tries to please everyone. Donna --- RhymeMaster0313 wrote: > > I definitely agree here. Guest guest
I know some meat-eaters who like to eat vegetarian burgers or meals once in a while because they're usually healthier. So a meat-eater at Burger King should not feel threatened by the introduction of a vegetarian burger option since this is an option for the meat eater too. A vegetarian wouldn't eat meat, but a meat-eater can go veggie once in awhile...
Guest guest
I agree. Fasting or at the very least, try a convenience store piece of fruit (even the pesticides would be more desirable to me than breaking down and giving BK any of my money) If all else fails - supermarkets sell lots of nuts. cheryl
Guest guest
Oh that would irk me if I had a meat-eating friend at a veg restaurant with me to say that! But I'd probably laugh too! =D Just because " their " restaurants are starting to see that there are more of " us, " that doesn't mean that the places that cater especially to us (which there aren't any around here, sadly) have to cater to them! I definitely agree with you though, the fast food places giving us more of an option than just lettuce in a bowl is great, and a step in the right direction. =) In a message dated 12/11/2006 7:54:18 P.M. That would be sooooo nice! I consider myself lucky if there are more options than a baked potato, and a side of green beans. We have one restaurant that has a veggie burger (Ruby Tuesday) and one that has about four veggie options (local Thai place). Other than that, you're lucky to find sides that don't have meat in them; never mind finding an entree. As for fast food, we do have a local Mexican place that has two " meatless " items. Other than that, I can't speak for fast food, as typically I think they are gross, even when not a vegetarian. Thia
Guest guest
I'm vegan, so likely wouldn't stop at BK. Just be devil's advocate though, if we don't support restaurants that add veggie choices to the menu...then perhaps they won't continue to try. You've got to give BK some credit. No other fast food burger joints in the US have even given the option to us. , Cheryl <starborn59 wrote: > > I agree. > Fasting or at the very least, try a convenience store > piece of fruit (even the pesticides would be more > desirable to me than breaking down and giving BK any > of my money) > If all else fails - supermarkets sell lots of nuts. > > cheryl >
