yeah..it is pretty high here

but it did peak around 2000-2002..

its gotten *slightly* better since then...

not much

but..like i said..dotcom boom ruined us....

i had a house i had been living in fer years..3 stories..huge back yard..2 bath 5 bedrooms..$1000 a month....(thats good fer here)

i was an idiot and moved to san diego fer 8 months in '98...

came screaming back with my tail firmly tucked betwixt my cheeks...

and by then, the dotcom boom was rolling...couldn't find anywhere to live..basically couch surfed and stayed with frieds fer a year..

finally got a place in West oakland.warehouse...

6 months later, it gets bought out by some dotcom kids, and they evicted everyone....

(then they lost all their money and begged ppl to move back!!)

soo..i ended up in this tiny place

*shrug*

but..i'd rather be here then say, sheridan wyoming!!!

:)

to each there own...

cheers

fraggle

*lunch ...coconut milk curry with tofu and garlic tomatoes peppers and broccoli(veggies all from me garden..whee) over basmati rice

I hear ya Fraggle! If we were to ever move to San Fran I'm sure we'd rent..

just kinda wild

to see how expensive things are in different areas of the states. Your right

about SF being

it's own little country, gotta love it!

Grandma owns a house in richmond, but living with her might be a little

unbearable :)

Prospect Heights! Always seeking vegan places in BK... Know any good

ones? How funny - so nearby, yet it took the internet to bring us

together!

Oh wow! How KEWL!!!! Well I don't know any vegan places in BK, but there are a few in Manhattan. I've been to Teany. (It's Moby's restaurant) and it was really good, but I think it's more of a tea place than a restaurant. do you know of any vegan places in BK?

Well, there's a 2nd branch, I guess, of Life Cafe in E. Williamsburg

somewhere that I'm longing to go to (not all vegan, but lots of good

vegan options!). I haven't been to Teany yet, but it sounds pretty

great! My favorite in Manhattan is Counter, in the E. Village. It's

vegan southern food. I grew up in Alabama, so that makes me very

happy. Veg City Diner I LOVE, but it seems to have either closed or

moved???? Candle Cafe on the upper East is great but far and spendy.

There are also a bunch of places in Williamsburg - Bliss, which has this

great veggie steak sandwich, and, oh, I know there are others, but I'm

not thinking of them right now! I know there's a new raw food place in

Union Square, or thereabouts that's supposed to be GREAT, but I haven't

been yet.

I love food! I love going out to eat, just thinking about it's getting

me so happy!

If you ever want to go restaurant exploring, let me know! It can be

hard to trick my friends or boyfriend into going somewhere meatless!

I've heard of all these places, but have not been to any of them. The yoga studio I go to advertises the Candle Cafe, but it's a bit far. So that's really what's stopping me on that one.

I am getting ready for a trip to Rome in less than 2 weeks, but as soon as I come back am more than willing to go "restaurant exploring" as you say.

None of my friends are intested in even eating salad, let alone meatles!! lol

Candle Cafe is really far - I only went because my parents were in town

and staying at one of those Palace-Plaza-Pierre type hotels up there.

But, it was REALLY good!

I used to go to a dog run up around Bay Ridge (86th & 7th), and it

seemed like it'd be a pretty meat loving place! Great dog run though!

Oh heavens no! They told me to pick a restaurant, so I did. The next

day they insisted they'd been poisoned.

Well... Sometimes you just have to trick them... Once you're all in the

place, at your table looking at menus.... Well, it's too late for them

Well, that would only work once.....because after eating at a vegan restaurant, they won't let you pick anymore!!!!! Now isn't that the truth?

i guess that all depends....

some folks are just plain stubborn..and will complain and kavetch about no dead hunks of flesh

but..after eatin a good vegan meal most folks will admit that they liked it, be pleasantly suprised, etc and so forth...

remember, most folks are VERY stuck in their ways, are afraid of change, deep down harbor some guilt, and think of vegans as hippies who eat branches and grass...

once you feed em a good meal, most folks(at least in my experience) they will admit they liked it, some will praise it, etc...

So true. My dad won't even eat anything I have cooked (even if it's a

food item that would naturally be vegan, think salsa or pasta sauce)

because he claims I " tricked " him with some vegan cheesecake. I had

told him I would only cook vegan food, so he knew before he ate it,

but that's a whole 'nother issue.

mmm.....quiche.....good idea!!! lol

Someone at work brought in a vegan quiche today, and everyone loved it - meat eaters included.

i guess that all depends....

some folks are just plain stubborn..and will complain and kavetch about no dead hunks of flesh

but..after eatin a good vegan meal most folks will admit that they liked it, be pleasantly suprised, etc and so forth...

remember, most folks are VERY stuck in their ways, are afraid of change, deep down harbor some guilt, and think of vegans as hippies who eat branches and grass...

once you feed em a good meal, most folks(at least in my experience) they will admit they liked it, some will praise it, etc...
