There are actually several type lists for vegan dating - I would have

thought it best to use those rather than a general chat list, which is open

to people of all ages, including young children.

Hi Gaije

I think it's wise to think about it ahead of time. I don't see any reason

for not being with someone who eats meat. It is difficult enough to find

people we can love, and who love us, without cutting down on our options too

much. Maybe he too is thinking about it, as you are.

Jo

..

I agree, that's why I'm thinking ahead about compromises we both could

live with without either feeling rotten about it.

Changing people is hard. Expecting others to change just for a

Relationship is not fair as deep inside they may not wish that change.

Specially, this doesn't happen fast and sometimes can take a few years.

The older the people are the more they are used to their habits and the

harder it is to change in general. These are just my observations.

Im Vegan and so is my Boyfriend of 1 1/2 years. We were both vegan

before we met so there was no issue of trying to change eachother.

Being with another Vegan is the best. None of the other problems

that I was faced with whyle dating someone who LOVED his meat and

milk.

Even if this relationship did'nt work out (which I dont think will

happen) I will never date a meat eatter again. I could'nt go back

after knowing how it can be. Not that I look down on Vegan's who

date non Veg* people. My sister is Vegan and is getting married to a

great guy who's not Veg*. It's just not for me.

As I said in a previous email - it would seem you have been ignored - so

maybe it's best to drop it.

Well, I am very happy for you and your found happiness with a vegan. And although, I realize that it would be MUCH easier for me to be with a non-meat eater, I cannot seem to throw this man away just yet. He has a good heart and as long as I set some rules for myself as well as him, I think I could do this.

Nice - That does sound ideal.... Oh well.... At least mine's not all

that carnivorous. And I think he's at that place where he does realize

going veg. is the right thing to do, just not feeling like he could

really do it..... Although, I am just kind of guessing about that, as we

haven't really discussed it much. We're definitely both at that place

where it's hard to say which is a more terrifying notion - this

continuing to go well for any length of time, or yet another nasty break

up (we've done about a thousand years of off and on, so......)

This made me laugh... There's another called frecycle I'm on

here, where people post things they're looking to get rid of, and others

can post things they're looking for, but unable to afford. Posts are

usu. headed either " wanted:XXX, " or, " Offered: xxx. " So, given your turn

of phrase, I can't help imagining THAT turning into a dating site! I

can see it now... " Offered: Straight, single man. Jewish, vegan, 29. "

" Wanted: Discreet, Bi woman, 26-30, for afternoon fun! "

Sorry, off topic again, and probably only amusing to me!

Re: Re: Relationships/Dating.

That's all well and good, but bringing that stuff in directly alters

the

dynamic of the group in a way I don't imagine I, for one, would like

much!  There are SO MANY niche online dating sites these days... I know

there's one for Buddhists, one for dog owners, I bet there's one for

veg. As well!  Look for that, why don't you?

Jo - I certainly don't think it's cause for a break up, but, yeah...

Something to think about how to contend with down the line.

And yes, it's definitely quite difficult enough to find someone to love

without narrowing, and narrowing your possibilities until they cease to

exist. If I were only willing to consider my absolute ideal (Jewish

raised Buddhist, 27-34, 6 " or taller, vegan, Brooklyn resident, Siberian

Husky loving, independently wealthy, well read, politically liberal as

can be, non-pot smoking, grew up in the south, doesn't mind a messy

house, rock star....) Well, um... I have a feeling I'd be on my own for

quite a good long while!

Hi everyone,

I have not oficially introduced myself, my name is anouk and I am a

mom of two little boys, ages 2 and 6.

I have been vegan for 2 years, I started in my pregnacy, which scared

my doctor to death (but that's another topic).

My 2 year old is vegan (has never had a drop of cow's milk touch his

lips), my 6 year old is vegetarian. My husband is vegetarian.

I just wanted to say that,

if you are thinking of having children in the future and dating

someone who is a meat eater, your food choices and principles is

something you must discuss in seriousness or else there will be

little arguments everytime the child is fed.

The subject of how to raise our child is something that always comes

up for us. (who's right, who's wrong) We manage to not argue in front

of him.

It is hard for a child to be vegetarian (socially at school, my child

gets teased often) let alone vegan.

I believe that my husband is on the road to veganism, (he had said so

himself) and I don't pressure him to be like me. But everytime I see

him giving my 6 year old eggs and cheese, I cringe. (my six year old

now loves dairy). My two year old once stole a piece of cheese off

the table, out of curiosity and he spit it back. He hated it! Thank

God.

Anyway, this is somethnig to think about, for those of you that are

dating meat eaters, of course there is always the hope that, that

person will come around and share the beautiful ways of veganism.

Peter, thanks for the detailed clarification. (Certainly, I wasn't talking about

advertising here.) Since, most of the group is against the idea of posting for

dates here it is clear that this idea has been dropped.

This is also something I've thought about, and I feel like (partly

because my parents were SO WIERD about food when I was little) rather

than imposing my choices on a child, I would go with a (similar to what

to I'd do w/a non veg. Boy in the house), it's up to you what you do

elsewhere, but no meat ( & probably no dairy,etc..) will be hanging

around at my house! Hopefully, this would instill veg. values andd

habits, and would encourage said imaginary child to make those choices

wisely on her own when elsewhere. Given my experience, I tend to think

that a lot of pressure about this kind of stuff from parents will likely

only backfire, and creat ravenously meat eating adults, at least for a

while.

We actually met on the Internet (don't laugh). I posted something on

Veg Source wanting to know if there were any other Vegans in Las

Vegas (I live in SF now). I was not looking for love, just like-

minded friends. Some girl e-mailed me back and said " I know a vegan

guy in Vegas who is really nice, you should e-mail him " . So I did

and we hit it off. Come to find out he had no idea who the girl was

that told me about him. Devine destiny maybe.......Hummmmm.

And they all lived happily ever after. (So far). :D

My Family is huge and mixed when it comes to Veg. stuff. My mom is

Vegan, one of my sisters is vegan. Another sister is Vegetarian, and

working to be vegan. Another sister doesn't drink milk, but dose eat

meat. One Brother likes to think he's vegetarian (he eats some meat

when he's not around us) Most of the rest are cool with it.

It's nice to have my mom vegan so when I go home to visit, I don't

have to worry about having her cook something special for me.

I was the first one to go veg* 9 years ago and it just grew from

there.

Thanks for asking.

Now that my mom has only 2 children at home out of 9 (one of them

moving out soon), you never know. She might be wanting to adopt a

And Im not making fun of internet dating just so you all know.

Before I met my BF on the internet I used to think the whold idea

was a little on the lame side, but now im a firm believer. It really

Watch Oprah solve all of your problems, of course! I believe that's how

her show works... No?

Let me know if a space opens up with your parents!

I'm all for the internet dating, actually. Boyfriend and I have been

doing this wierd off and on dance we do, for... Oh God, 4 years,

almost? And during some of our " offs, " I've done plenty of internet

dating... Only the one that turned into an actual relationship of any

kind, but I never had any wierd scary bad thing happen, and actually

found it to be a better filter for screening out the tedious than many

other ways of meeting!

And, online, you can kind of order up your dream date, doing ever more

specific searches till you find that one who meets every requirement on

your checklist...

And Im not making fun of internet dating just so you all know.

Before I met my BF on the internet I used to think the whold idea

was a little on the lame side, but now im a firm believer. It really

dose work sometimes. :)

I certianly wouldn't laugh. I know how downright horrible (as in non-

existent) the veg scene is here in Vegas -- ugh! I have yet to meet a

single other vegan and I've been here almost 4 years.

Your family sounds great. Personally, my dad is always trying to

trick my sister and myself into somehow eating meat (or me dairy).

Sigh....

peace;
