Oooo! That sounds yummy! I think I've only juiced watermelon before.

I love lemonade the best:

juice 1/4 lemon, WITH the peel

with 4 apples

YUMMY!

It's not bitter? Can you taste the peel?

No, it's not bitter at all! If you don't use the peel then it takes at least

1 lemon (maybe 2?) to get the same flavor. The lemon peel just gives it a

lot more flavor, but it's not sour or bitter because of the apples. It is

also not very sweet because of the lemon. It is a perfect blend!!!

I often wonder about Lemon peel..lemon zest... if the lemons have pesticides on

them... why do we use the peels?? I am sure washing does not get all the

pesticides off... Even I am sure some of the organic ones have something on

them,,,

Ben & Jerry's have an ice cream recipe book out?

Cool! [pardon, that is almost punny]

The only thing that is keeping me from getting

an ice cream maker is knowing how fat i would get

by eating all the frozen treats! Moderation would fly

right out the window then.*lol*

Is Ben & Jerry's ice cream vegetarian? I almost bought some the

other day but it wasn't marked as suitable for vegetarians so I

chose another brand instead. So many products here are marked if

suitable for vegetarians that I tend to assume anything that isn't

so marked is unsuitable. That means I always avoid Ben & Jerry's and

Haagen Dasz.

Unless certain B & J flavors have gelatin in it, then I assume they are

acceptable for vegetarians. I don't think they put rennet in ice cream.

I used to do something similar with raw bananas in my Vitamix. It was

one of the first things I did. IT came out pretty well.

I'm not sure how safe it is to assume anything. I've been particularly

suspicious of anything which is not marked as suitable for vegetarians

ever since contacting Coca Cola who informed me that they use

ingredients made from fish in some of their colourings.

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if any of you have any favorite non-soy ice cream

recipes to make in an ice cream maker. I need to make high fat/ high calorie

desserts with no soy. Something nut-based or coconut milk based. I bought

the vice cream book, but was wondering if any of you have any tried and true

favorites. I would love a basic vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, and maybe

a peanutbutter/chocolate type thing. Thank you!

It's for a child who needs a high calorie vegan diet. He's not big on

nutbutters, avocadoes, etc, so ice cream would be a good thing for him to

have. He eats a lot of soy so I'm trying to find a non-soy non-dairy ice

cream, esp ones using coconut milk or nuts.

FWIW, I love all the Vice Cream recipes I've tried...maybe 10 of them so you

really can't go

wrong with it.

Jess,

One of the best ways I've found to learn about a specific product is

to go to the company's website (in this case www.breyers.com) and look

at their frequently asked questions. Many companies are addressing

common allergens in their FAQ, and some are very good at explaining

which of their products contain gluten as well.

All the best to you in your pursuit of health.

Hi Karen,

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!

Apparently my message has offended some because it was not vegan; not my

intention in

posting my querry. The reason I asked was that I was aware that the product used

to be GF

but I recently started feeling ill. The company website is extreamly ambiguous

and

therefore not very helpful so I hoped others would have some ideas. Because I

was feeling

sick, I was trying to determine the cause and wanted to know if others had

experienced

similar reactions or had any information.

It is my experience that just about all ice cream companies now make some

kind of ice cream with cookies or other wheat products. This means that

even though an ice cream is gluten free, there is a risk of cross

contamination. Granted it is often a slight risk, but if you are very

sensitive, that is enough to upset your system.

I hope people on the list were more kind than that (sigh). I hope that my

answer was somewhat helpful to you and that you were able to isolate the

cause of your reaction. It has always been my experience that this list was

for helping others with the need for a gluten free diet and I appreciate

that you reached out for help at a time when you were not feeling your best.

Hi Louis

I love ice cream. The one I buy is Swedish Glace. My favourite

flavour is vanilla, but I also like the strawberry and the chocolate.

Sometimes we buy the Tofutti cornetto cones, which are also good.

not having a car n not being that near shops makes it hard to get the ice cream

home

before it melts so I only get it when have acess to a car or when getting the

co-op's home

delivery service, and they only do a limited range of swedish glace.

Also have receding gums and it is rather painful when eating ice cream!
