Guest guest Report post Posted July 19, 2006 It depends on how much you drink. I am talking about lemon juice and water. Lemonade (sweetened) makes the blood acidic and more prone to dis-ease. Guest guest Report post Posted July 22, 2006 My sister used to get migraines all the time. One time after flying from San Diego to Chicago and back to San Diego in the same weekend her became all red and inflamed. She went to the emergency room found out she had angle closure glaucoma they did laser surgery to relive the pressure and now she almost never gets migraines anymore. Also if it had not been caught when it was she could have lost her eye. gayle

Guest guest Report post Posted November 2, 2009 Hello, I am new to eating gluten free and have only just figured out that this is could be related to my migraines. I have only been gluten free for about 3 weeks and I can tell I feel better but I am still suffering. Could this be due to gluten still being in my system? How long do suppose that it takes for gluten to be out of your system? Or maybe I am eating gluten and not realizing it, like from possible cross contamination and such. Has anyone else suffered from migraines and gotten better after cutting gluten out of their diet? I also wonder if maybe I can't eat cheese either because I have heard that if you are gluten intolerant then it is highly likely that you cannot have dairy either and I am still eating cheese. I thought I would see a big difference right away but it is obvious I am still doing something wrong. Olivia
Guest guest Report post Posted November 2, 2009 Give up the cheese & all dairy for a couple weeks and see how you feel. Cheese was the cause of my migraine problem! I still get migraines for about a day the first day of PMS, but that is nothing compaired to what I use to go threw! Dairy causes a lot of women problems, and those with gluten issues seem to get the worst symptoms. If you can eat soy try Follow Your Heart brand vegan cheese. I forget the brand but look for almond cheese if you can have nuts. Both are really good in taste and texture and will help you cope with cravings. If you like cream cheese or sour cream, Toffutti makes soy versions that are really good. There are lots of alternatives available. If your into gormet cheeses look up Cosmo's vegan shop online, they carry a couple different brands. Shreeze brand has brie, white cheddar & chives, etc. I didn't care for the cheddar & chives but my sister (who loves real cheese) loved it better than real stuff! Finding alternatives you like is key to overcoming cravings and giving up cheese. It took me way too long to give it up because back when I did, the only alternatives I knew about was that discusting rice cheese thats really oily and horrible! A lot of people like it because it's still on store shelves but I can't stomach it! Good luck! Guest guest Report post Posted November 2, 2009 Olivia, dairy products are DEFINITELY associated with migraines, as well as gluten. You've made an excellent first step by giving up gluten, so I hope you will take a next step by avoiding ALL dairy products. .... and do also keep a watchful eye out for gluten mistakes. Gluten is used in various forms in so many products, so read labels carefully. The general advice is " if in doubt, say no to it " . Guest guest Report post Posted November 3, 2009 I have been gluten and dairy free for almost four years. In that time, I have only had one migraine about six months after going GFDF. It was triggered by some cookies that I thought were " safe " but were not. Migraines run in my family and I am very happy to no longer get them. The diet is totally worth it!! Guest guest Report post Posted November 3, 2009 I was very prone to them from about the time I turned 14. Since going gluten and diary free about a year and a half ago they have greatly reduced. I also quit taking the birth control that helped me control them for 4 or 5 years, and they got even better. I still get on average one a month, but they are much more manageable than they used to be. And I don't think they are gluten triggered. The diet change has really helped. However, while I detoxed off the gluten, they were much worse. I can't remember the time frame now, but I had at least one rough week maybe more. Hope you feel better soon. Guest guest Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Migraines also run in my family, and are one of the reasons that my dad figures his mother probably had celiac too. My dad and my brother both have migraines, and I get them as well. I tend to get mine with my cycle, but they have been improving on a GFCF diet. Guest guest Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Margaret, this is great to hear too! Since you are still suffering more than one would wish, I wonder if there may be one or more additional dietary triggers? Since birth control meds had an impact and they still happen once/month, it sounds like there's a connection with your hormonal cycle. An effective way to moderate the changes due to the hormonal cycle is to reduce dietary fat intake. Dr. Neal Barnard talks about this in his book " Foods that fight pain " . http://www.nealbarnard.org/books.htm Here's an online sample of the material in the book: http://www.pcrm.org/health/prevmed/menstrual_pain.html Deborah I was very prone to them from about the time I turned 14. Guest guest Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Along with being gluten-free, I suggest those suffering migraines pay a visit to their chiropractor. Often T1 and T2 are misaligned. T1 is the very first bone into the brain and is an adjustment not often made unless the chiro knows the patient sufferings migraines. Guest guest Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Thank you all for your support! I am finally done with gluten and dairy as those are the last things that I have not tried. I am into alternative therapies and have literally tried EVERYTHING from clay internally and externally, colon cleansing, and just about every other cleanse known to man kind. Oh and I have also been to a lot of regular doctors and alternative doctors with no results, oh and yes I go the the chiro once a month too. Nothing has ever kept them away and it wasn't until just recently that I really linked all my food habits to my migraines. I could have possibly been in denial because I knew that every time I ate something I seemed to instantly get a headache that turned into a full blown migraine later. I have heard that the foods you crave the most are the ones that you shouldn't have. But this will be a hard journey because now I have to find new things that I can eat while morning the others I will never be able to eat again. But being in bed for the last 3 days eating and drinking nothing thinking this one was the worst has made me realize that no amount of crap food that will make me sick is worth that.
