Guest guest
Our family puts in our vote for vegan marshmallows! We went on a recent group camping trip and we enjoyed smores with the rest of them. We took along Sweet & Sara vanilla marshmallows and toasted them with everyone else as one part of our full camping experience! We found them at a local store. (We also had vegan sausages for the cookout!) Danielle & Family
Guest guest
I totally second that motion! I also recently wrote a review of those vegan marshmallows here: http://www.vegblogger.com/blog/2009/08/sweet-and-sara-vegan-marshmallows-review.\ html
Guest guest
We have tried those and they were great, but cost a fortune -- a couple of months ago I ordered a vegan marshmallow mix online (at http://www.karmavore.ca/shop.php?pcatid=1 & cat=7) -- the marshmallows turned out very like the Sweet and Sarah ones, and that one mix packet made 100 marshmallows! It cost less than $10 Canadian. There is a video you can link to from the manufacturer's site to see exactly how they're made. You've got to have a stand mixer -- I don't own one, but I was able to borrow one for a day to make them. I wouldn't even try it with a hand mixer -- even if the motor would hold out, your arm wouldn't. We have also tried the new Dandies ones, and they are excellent. Guest guest
I've been looking for a mix (i've heard of at least 2, but can't think of the names off hand) - I tried making them once (no stand mixer, no electric hand mixer...) They didn't come out like marshmallows, they came out like Turkish Delight! So I only wish I added rose water or something to them after that LOL. Definitely agree with needing the stand mixer (it's on my wish list). I'm going to check out that link now - Missie On Tue, Aug 25, 2009 at 2:26 PM, Heather Hossfeld<hlh4850 wrote: > > > We have tried those and they were great, but cost a fortune -- a couple of > months ago I ordered a vegan marshmallow mix online (at > http://www.karmavore.ca/shop.php?pcatid=1 & cat=7) -- the marshmallows turned > out very like the Sweet and Sarah ones, and that one mix packet made 100 > marshmallows! Guest guest
I just bought my first package of Sweet & Saras and want to do something special with them. We don't have any camping trips planned, so no s'mores, and I'd like to do something beyond rice crispie treats. Maybe some kind of sweet with a marshmallow topping to really show them off? Ideas? Thanks, Jessica EMAILING FOR THE GREATER GOOD Join me

Guest guest
I made open-topped s'mores in the toaster oven with them -- a graham cracker, a layer of nut butter, a marshmallow, then some chocolate chips on top that melted -- they looked gorgeous and tasted divine. Guest guest
When i was @ girl scout camp years ago we made hot banana splits with marshmallows. You take a banana still in the peel and cut through the first layer of peel and flesh, being careful not to cut the second layer of peel. then you put in all sorts of yummy stuff, like marshmallows, choc. chips, peanut butter, or any other type of ooy-gooy melty thing you can think of. Wrap it in foil and place it in the fire (or oven) and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes. You can eat it as is or put it on some soy ice cream. I loved it when i was a kid, infact I might have to do this again soon. Amity P.S. Has anyone tried to make marshmelows from a vegan cook book? How did they turn out, and what book was it in? > > > > ________________________________ > Jessica Almy <j_almy > > Wednesday, August 26, 2009 10:32:49 AM > Re: Vegan Marshmallows > > > > I just bought my first package of Sweet & Saras and want to do something special with them. Guest guest
I used the recipe from La Dolce Vegan. I didn't have a stand mixer, but they came out a LOT like Turkish Delight in texture. (sort of sweet and gummi-sticky. I don't know how to describe it exactly). They tasted right, but obviously couldnt' whip enough air into it. It really seemed like it was going to work if I had the right tools though! Guest guest
For a colorful treat and a great presentation (and simple), we rolled the marshmallows in India Tree Nature's Colors decorating sugar. These were actually so sweet the kids limited themselves to just one! I also dipped the marshmallows in melted vegan chocolate and let them cool. The dripping chocolate was the only mess but who cares - it's chocolate The kids were able to help with both of these. Guest guest
Call us kooky, but we love smores made over the stove top. Just roast the marshmallows over the burner (we have gas but electric works also). The kids love the adventure, I love the hassle-free dessert! Guest guest
We found vegan marshmallows at a local store - My Organic Market. You can also order directly online. They are worth a try. Guest guest
Thanks for all the dessert ideas, everyone! Now to pick just one to try. Also, to respond to Sejal's question, I bought the Sweet & Sara's at Sticky Fingers Bakery in Washington, DC [http://www.stickyfingersbakery.com/], but I've also seen them online at Vegan Essentials [http://www.veganessentials.com/catalog/vanilla-vegan-marshmallows-by-sweet--sar\ a.htm]. I notice they also have marshmallow kits. Jessica EMAILING FOR THE GREATER GOOD Join me
