Guest guest Report post Posted August 3, 2006 Nice to meet you Duncan. Saw your blog page too. Nice work. Yummy food! And to think that meat addicts think we starve . Saw your shark hunt article too. Very sad. On a good note, it's comforting to know there are many other vegans out there (including other animals) that I figure have more sense. I'd rather pity them than get angry at them. I also tell myself that all humans are vegans deep down and one day everyone's going to see clearly. And for the first that happen to "see", I figure interesting events await! Take care Duncan Samarasinghe <vegansharkchat wrote: Hi people..My name is Duncan, I am vegan for 17months, and veggie 4 years previous to that.I am British, but live in Luxembourg.I love meeting and talking to vegans, not just about food, but about anything. The philosophy does it for me My blog is at http://veganshark.co.uk (non-commercial)Thanks,Duncan

Guest guest Report post Posted August 3, 2006 Hi Duncan I thoroughly enjoyed your blog.. I was inspired, particularly by your take on spaghetti.... and sickened by the brutal heartless treatment of the shark...... keep up the good work BTW, some of my ancestors came from Luxembourg, although I have never visited... Guest guest Report post Posted October 29, 2008 I had the same problem for a while too. It took a little while of fishing the emails out of the junk mail and telling it that they weren't junk before it seemed to get the message. Haven't had any problems for a while now ... touch wood. I do enjoy putting work into this site and love the fact that we have such a huge range of recipes on hand. Kim , " S. Guest guest Report post Posted June 22, 2009 We had the same problem. My daughter was 2 when she started having problems. She was very aware that wheat/gluten gave her problems. When we went to eat anywhere, she always said, does that have gluten in it??? That novelty wore off.....My mother always wanted to make muffins or some kind of treat for her. So, she learned to make some special little treats that she only got at grandma's house. She loved it! I would also buy gluten free foods and leave them at her house in case she didn't have time to make something. **************An Excellent Credit Score is 750. See Yours in Just 2 Easy Steps! Guest guest Report post Posted June 22, 2009 I can sympathize Barbara. Having to say no to one's child can be painful. Changing your diet so that you only eat what she can have too, is a great idea. It may seem like a sacrifice initially but you may be surprised by how much better you feel too, and it's worth it for a happier relationship between you and your daughter! What specific recipes are you wanting to make gluten free? Deborah Hello, THANK YOU so much for this group and letting me join. My dgd, 2years old this past May, is gluten free. She is getting to the point where she really notices some of the yummy things she used to eat and asks for a bite. She is so sweet that it breaks my heart not to be able to share with her. I am looking for ideas and strategies for cooking more gluten free and just connecting with those that live this way. Thanks! Barbara .
Guest guest Report post Posted June 22, 2009 when i read about people whose families are unsympathetic to their gluten free needs, who try to get them to eat food that will harm them, or make them feel like outsiders at family gatherings, it almost brought tears to my eyes to hear about a grandmother as kind and caring as you! gluten free food can be well-cooked and tasty. my sister is great...whenever we hold family gatherings at her place, she makes everything gluten free and vegetarian (her daughter and daughter's boyfriend are vegetarian, and i'm gluten free and vegetarian) but even the non glutenfree or non veg people have a good time. it's really possible! -- +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ just posted: GLUTEN FREE SALTSTICK MINI BREADS http://www.wheatlessandmeatless.com +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Guest guest Report post Posted November 13, 2009 Low Fat Vegan diets are healthy, in fact The China Study validates that question. There is fat in fruits, vegetables and grains in small percentages and he can get Omega-3's from greens, so he could meet his needs nutritionally.  I don't believe in using oils of any kind but I do think it is okay to have whole fats in small quantities from avocado, nuts and seeds, so long as total fat intake stays between 10-15% of calories.  ~Gretchen  --- On Thu, 11/12/09, Cristina Gosling <mcgosling wrote: Cristina Gosling <mcgosling Hi Thursday, November 12, 2009, 12:28 PM  Hi, I have been lurking on this list for a while, but this is my first post. We live in Sonoma County, and I have been a vegetarian since my late teens, and am raising my 3 children vegetarian. They are aged 5, nearly 8 and 10. They go to a Charter Waldorf school. My diet is mostly vegan, but I occasionally eat local free range eggs. The children still like their dairy, but I have been reducing the amount they eat. My husband has been vegetarian since we met, and was raised on a diet very low in meat anyway. He has a hereditary high cholesterol condition, so a vegetarian diet is healthier for him anyway. I do have a question. Recently, he started researching vegan diets that are extremely low in fat. Although I am delighted he wants to be vegan, but I am uncomfortable with a diet that includes no oils, no nuts and no avocado. Can that really be healthy? Guest guest Report post Posted November 14, 2009 I don't use oils either. Personally, I do notice that I don't feel as good when I totally eliminate fatty foods like avocado, eggs, nuts and nut butters. He can experiment with eliminating fats and see how he feels - I am sure he will be able to tell if his body needs it or not. Good luck! Guest guest Report post Posted November 16, 2009 Hi, (Sorry for the previous blank post - that was a goof.) This very low fat vegan diet can be healthy for people with active heart disease as Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn discusses in his book Prevent & Reverse Heart Disease. After all, where does corn oil come from? You can eat the whole food and get the healthy fats. We do not have any nutritional need for oils as they are processed foods. However, there is other data showing that small amounts of nuts and seeds are heart healthy as well. Has your husband read Cholesterol Protection for Life by Dr. Joel Fuhrman? That has many suggestions for folks with elevated cholesterol. A high nutrient dense diet protects one's blood vessels from damage at any age.
