Guest guest Report post Posted April 1, 2005 Another vote for Follow Your Heart, it's the best! Here in Boulder, you can get it at the Boulder Coop and at Vitamin Cottage. Guest guest Report post Posted April 2, 2005 I've never tried this, but I got this info from another list. The writer of the post teaches vegan cooking classes, so it's probably worth looking into if your looking for vegan cheese: Whole Foods has finally picked up Vegan Gourmet soy cheese in Mozzarella and Cheddar to be at the distributor in May, however it won't automatically be in stores without requesting it. So start filling out customer comment cards at your local Whole Foods. This is the only soy cheese on the market that doesn't have casein or hydrogenated oil, and it DOES melt! I shred it and freeze it, then pull out what I need directly from the freezer. http://www.imearthkind.com/ This company has also just come out with vegan cream cheese and sour cream, although it won't be on the east coast until next fall or winter. Guest guest Report post Posted April 3, 2005 They don't carry it in my area either though I keep asking :-) its supposed to be coming to many new areas soon . you can order it online as well but shipping may be prohibitive ( it is for me !) http://www.imearthkind.com/what's%20new.htm <http://www.imearthkind.com/what's%20new.htm> Teresa Heather, I have never seen this cheese in my area( MD) We have plenty of Whole Foods. Guest guest Report post Posted April 4, 2005 My Organic Market (M.O.M.'s) in College Park, MD carries the mozzerella, monterey jack, and nacho cheese flavors by Follow Your Heart. MOM's always runs out of the mozzerella flavor due to its popularity so I would call before going at (301) 220-1100. - <VAP79 Friday, April 01, 2005 2:24 PM Re: vegan cheese > > > Heather, > I have never seen this cheese in my area( MD) We have plenty of Whole Foods. > Can you find a phone #, address, website for the people who make this cheese. > Thanks, > Laura > hcrans writes: > the BEST cheese is made by " follow your heart " and can be purchased at > whole foods. if your whole foods does not carry it, ask them to order it! > > >

Guest guest Report post Posted November 8, 2005 Did you cook with the cheese or eat it " raw? " I don't know if it was this list or another, but people were raving that this cheese was delicious. I'm not vegan, but thought I would try it if I ever come across it. Since you mentioned Rockville, I assume you are in Maryland? I'm in Arlington. Have you been to Java Green in D.C.? I am not a fan of the vegan lunch " meats, " but I got the Veg Max sandwich there and it was delicious, actually non-veg boyfriend devoured most of mine. It's not in a convenient location for me, but I do want to get back there; I keep craving it. Not sure what brand of cheese they use, but the " meat " and cheese were grilled ( or served hot). ______________________________ Several people on this group have endorsed the product, so I gave it a try and picked up 2 different kinds (I think they were cheddar and Montery Jack flavored). My hopes were high, but I was disappointed. I didn't like either of them. But maybe you will. Seems like a lot of people do. - Alan
Guest guest Report post Posted November 8, 2005 We eat it raw, use it on pizzas, cook with it, cheese sauces, toasted cheese sands. with all sorts of veggies. I haven't been to the Java Green yet. I have had their food at various festivals, and was impressed. Laura llugar writes: Did you cook with the cheese or eat it " raw? Guest guest Report post Posted January 24, 2008 there's an ok vegan "parmesan" that i used to use at Fellini's on their pizza i think it was made out of walnuts... Blake Wilson Jan 24, 2008 8:37 AM vegan cheese I thought I'd chime in on cheese: I've tried a lot of them and I agree they almost all suck. The only stuff I've found that's reasonable is the weird powdered stuff in the "mac n chreese" brand (hey, it's comfort food for me!), and the stuff put out by galaxy: http://www.galaxyfoods.com/ourbrands/usa/vegan.asp Their "parmesan" works just fine, and we've found that the block stuff, when grated, works decent on pizzas if you use it sparingly and at the end of the baking period. Analog(ue)? Well, sure! So? Regards, Blake Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance. Confucius

Guest guest Report post Posted January 14, 2010 Hi this is Shae. I'm new to the group. I just recently got hold of a pound of Daiya's Vegan Cheese (www.*daiya*foods.com <http://www.daiyafoods.com>) Their cheddar and mozzarella is great and not only does it melt..it stretches which no vegan cheese does. I would highly recommend getting this cheese. It is the closest taste to real cheese I've had since I went vegan.
Guest guest Report post Posted January 14, 2010 I love the Lisanatti cheese substitute I have tried. I mozzerella is made with almonds and is great. It melts just like real mozzerella and you can't tell the difference in taste. I haven't tried any of the others, but I bet they are just as good. Mozzerella is the only cheese I can't do without. Guest guest Report post Posted January 14, 2010 Enthusiastically seconding what Shae said--Daiya cheese is beyond amazing! (I've only had the mozzarella, but, boy, was it ever good!) (Welcome, Shae--I hope you love it here as much as I do!) Guest guest Report post Posted February 20, 2010 I ordered the Daiya cheese from Cosmo's Vegan Shoppe, it just arrived Thursday, can't wait to use it, tonight my daughter and I are making cheesy mashed potatoes with it. I've been buying Daiya whenever its presence at Food Fight (a vegan grocery in Portland, OR) and my being in town coincide happily. It's really yummy and makes terrific pizza and nachos. When I can't get it, though, I find Vegan Gourmet mozarella style to be a pretty good alternative for pizza. Tofutti slices mozarella are also tasty and melt well. Other vegan cheeses haven't thrilled me quite as much.
