Guest guest
Hello to all with the " perfect " food problem: I always have problems with " extremism " , especially coming from Europe. There is the perfect way of " eating " sure, but what is that? Perfect would be probably if we would cut out 80% of what we eat in general, even from raw foods. The end result would be, no wasting time anymore for any food prep, no wasting money any more for any fancy kitchen and kitchen equipment. The perfect way would be probably: 1. to eat fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, just as they are. 2. to eat only food that grows around you. 3. to eat only what you would eat when you would live out in nature, like Gorillas in the Congo. So who is really perfect? Perhaps we rather should look at the big picture: Answers to 1. and 3. Well, we sure could save a lot of time and money in not preparing any foods, but as our human brains are, we are creative. And many of us don't eat only to " feed the machine " , but have also some fun and enjoyment with eating. If we would live still in huts and caves in the jungle without any further creativity challenge, we could eat just perfect! What would happen then? Would we live for forever? Well, even Gorillas and monkeys with their perfect eating don't live for forever. Their age is about 30 to 60 years. They get old and die. So do we humans. All live form dies when the time is over. Our human bodies, even 1 Million years or more ago (when food was still perfect supposedly!!!), was not meant to live longer than 60 to 130 years. My suggestion: If you have serious health problems, stay with the " most perfect " diet as long as possible, until you have recovered. Learn and get to know what caused the problem. And then enjoy your life!!!! Eat whatever you feel for and what makes you feel good. What makes you feel good is good for you! Everybody is different, everybody has different needs. You will find out for yourself. If you sometime eat things that are not perfect, so what? Enjoy, be happy and go on with your life! Be HAPPY!!!! The most important part in life!!! You can eat the most perfect food and still be miserable! What good would that do? I know so many people in Germany, Italy, France and South Africa, they drink their daily wine, their daily coffee, enjoy good food (not junk food), they smoke, and still get 90 and more, and they are happy lovable people. As I experienced here in America, many people seem to fall from one extreme into the other. First they grow up with McDonalds, hot dogs and other fast foods from quick money making franchise chains, because they have not learned at all how to cook and prepare food at home, they get sick and overweight and then they fall into the other extreme of wanting to be perfect from now on. Answers to 2. If we would eat only what grows around us, we could cut out probably 80% of the fruits, because they don't grow here; just to name a few for example, bananas, coconuts, durian, brazilnuts, cashews, cacao beans, goji berries and many others from other countries. If you want to follow a so called " perfect diet " , you might as well cut out all the items above, because they simply don't grow here. Solution: Don't become too extreme, cleanse twice a year, don't overeat, eat a lot of greens, cut out the worst foods, eat whatever you like and enjoy your life! I've read that kidney beans are somewhat toxic unless cooked. Also I think Andrew Weil wrote in one of his books that mushrooms were. I love raw mushrooms and so does my 11yo daughter, but I'm afraid to let her eat too many. Does anyone have definitive info on raw 'shrooms? thanks!! -Caroline ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Raw: http://www.rawtiffin.com/
Guest guest
I really like what Ursula said about eating what grows around you. A friend of mine said the same thing, but I don't hear many raw fooders talk that way. We are lucky that we can have fruit from other countries. My friend was telling me food grown in our own climate is probably the best overall. It's a great thought. I didn't listen to him before, but I find myself leaning towards what grows in my area (Washington State). I also like what was said about the " extreme " way of thinking. I am an extreme thinker when it comes to food and it has to be " perfect " or on my " list. " I have a very all or nothing view of thinking in regards to food and it does not make me a happy person. Guest guest
EXCELLENT POST!!! I agree about extremism. I think we all have that tendency, and I have lately been working on it more in diet. Steaming and using 1 Tbsp pasteurized food in my marinades no longer bothers me, as the overall goal is HEALTH and stress will hinder it more than that 1 tbsp nutritional yeast or um plum vinegar.
