From Kristina Bowman:

Big news on the Texas "Puppymill" Bill this week -- on Wednesday HSUS and Texas Humane Legislation Network made incredible progress in getting this important legislation passed.

As you likely know, the Texas Legislature only meets every other year, until the end of May, so right now we have a unique and ripe opportunity to make lasting impact for Texas animals.

HB 3180, the "Puppymill Bill," is just what it sounds like = it addresses large scale commercial breeders who confine hundreds of dogs in cruel conditions. If you go to this section of THLN's website, you can read a more extensive summary: http://www.thln.org/?pageID=1F811F1E-3048-7B4D-7BC4A6640D0FA47E.

You may not be surprised to hear that there are a number of groups [read: breeders, the backyard variety (good breeders do not support puppy mills)] protesting this anti-puppymill bill.

It is important and requested that everyone who opposes the existence of puppymills contact your personal representatives in both houses to let them know of your strong support for HB 3180. It literally takes less than one minute to dial these offices and give your name, as most of them just maintain simple tally lists of callers.

The opposition is doing their legwork (they have lots of blood-money at stake here), and so must we!

Contact information for your state reps can be found on the state's web site in a search box on the state's home page: www.capitol.state.tx.us. All legislators have a web page at www.capitol.state.tx.us where you can email all of them if you have the time - almost 200 legislators!

Additionally, please fax, phone and email (all three!) to all members of the Local and Consent Calendar Committee below, stressing your support for HB 3180:Chairman: Rep Senfronia Thompson (D)Ph: (512) 463-0720Fax: (512) 463-6306Email: senfronia.thompsonVice-Chair: Rep Byron CookPh: (512) 463-0730Fax: (512) 463-2506Email: byron.cookRep Rafael AnchiaPh: (512) 463-0746Fax: (512) 473-0738Email: rafael.anchiaRep Dwayne BohacPh: (512) 463-0727Fax: (512) 463-0681Email: dwayne.bohacRep Valinda BoltonPh: (512) 463-0652Fax: (512) 463-0565Email: valinda.boltonRep Roland GutierrezPh: (512) 463-0452Fax: (512) 463-1447Email: roland.gutierrezRep Jodie LaubenbergPh: (512) 463-0186Fax: (512)20463-5896Email: jodie.laubenbergRep Trey Martinez FischerPh: (512) 463-0616Fax: (512) 463-4873Email: trey.martinez.fischerRep Tommy MerrittPh: (512) 463-0750Fax: (512) 463-9085Email: tommy.merrittRep Geanie MorrisonPh: (512)
