Don't Let Michael Vick Benefit By Abusing Dogs

April 24, 2009

It is once again time for caring individuals, not only in the United States but throughout the world, to strike a blow for animals in general and our canine friends in particular.  And all it takes is one fleeting moment to add your name to our Petition.

Michael Vick, former NFL quarterback, pleaded guilty to being the central figure in a dog fighting ring.

As Vick nears the end of his prison sentence and scheduled July 20, 2009 release, there has been talk of what he'll do when he's released.  Will professional football welcome this criminal back?  Can he recapture some of his lucrative product endorsements?  How about an amends-making reality TV show?  What about a radio talk-show?

But no matter how Vick tries to cash in on his criminal "celebrity," he must be stopped- because every benefit he obtains once released from prison will be derived not from his former football stardom, but from the publicity he received from his criminal abuse of dogs.

ISAR has taken it upon ourselves to lead that fight.

The ISAR-drafted Petition appearing below is simple and to the point.

Each time ISAR learns that Vick has, or is about to

, benefit from his criminal "celebrity," we'll send our "Stop Dog Abuser Michael Vick From Benefiting From His Crime" Petition to everyone who's trying to help him.  We'll also send an email to all Petition signers informing them that we've done it.

Vick's sentence, a mere two years in prison, was insufficient punishment for his savage acts.  ISAR's Petition is a grass roots effort to further punish Vick for his abominable conduct, and we vow to keep after him even after he has faded from public view (and the sooner the better).

We ask only two simple things from caring individuals and humane organizations around the world.

Please sign our Petition.

Please forward our webpage containing ISAR's Petition to everyone on your mailing list, and ask all recipients to do the same.

ISAR hopes that within the next few weeks we'll receive at least 10,000 signatures so that as soon as we know exactly how Vick is trying to cash in on his criminal "celebrity," we can send the Petition to every individual, company and other organization which might benefit him.

PETITION TEXT

STOP DOG ABUSER MICH

AEL VICK

FROM BENEFITING FROM HIS CRIME

Whereas, Michael Vick pleaded guilty to participating in a dog-fighting ring which caused the abuse and death of canine companion animals, and

Whereas, Michael Vick was sentenced to federal prison, and

Whereas, Michael Vick is now a convicted felon, and

Whereas, no matter how much celebrity Michael Vick may have acquired as a professional football player, he is now well known as a criminal and immoral abuser of dogs, and

Whereas, because of his criminal conduct and immoral behavior Michael Vick should be shunned by decent people and no reputable individual, company or other organization should in any manner benefit him, and

Whereas, any individual, company or other organization that does in any manner benefit Michael Vick will be boycotted by the signers of this Petition,

Now, therefore, we the undersigned hereby petition every individual, company and organization throughout the world not to benefit Michael Vick in any manner whatsoever.

Non-profit organizations usually solicit contributions to support their activities through direct mail campaigns.

But that doesn't make sense for ISAR.

For one thing, today's costs of direct mail solicitation by organizations like ISAR which lack multi-million dollar budgets greatly exceed a reasonable return.  Frankly, ISAR would rather use the money we have in support of our humane education programs (www.isaronline.org), rather than spend it on paper suppliers, copy writers, and the United States Post Office.

Second, we believe that what we do - from our published monographs, to our litigation, to our efforts preventing Michael Vick from benefiting by abusing

dogs, and much more (www.isaronline.org) - speaks for itself.

ISAR needs ongoing cont

ributions to continue and broaden its animal rights programs.  It's as simple as that.

If you like what we do, PLEASE DONATE!

Don't Let Michael Vick Benefit By Abusing Dogs

Petition Update 1 (May 1, 2009)

In ISAR's original Petition we wrote that:

ISAR has now learned that several employment opportunities for Dog Abuser Vick have arisen.

NFL Commissioner  Roger Goodell not only has not ruled out Vick's return to professional football, but he actually=2

0contemplates it.  According to Goodell, "Michael did an egregious thing. He has paid a very significant price for that. If he's learned from that and is prepared to live a different life, I think the general public is forgiving on that when people are genuine and they show remorse and are prepared to live a different life."

Displaying his profit-driven amorality, according to the Orlando Sentinel Jim Haslett, coach of a team in the new United Football League, is supposed to have said of Vick that "Obviously his values are a little different than mine or yours probably, but as long as he does what he's supposed to do, I think he deserves a second chance. * * * People will want to see him play. He was a great quarterback. He has a .700 percent winning record."

Reuters news service has reported that "the incarcerated NFL star has talked to producers about launching an unscripted [reality] program. The proposed documentary series would follow Vick beginning July 20, the day of his scheduled release from federal custody, and show him trying to 'make amends for his past.'  Sources said eager producers even visited the suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback in prison in the hope of signing him. As a result, a few parties claim to have obtained rights to a Vick project. His attorneys did not return a call for comment, but they told a judge this month at a bankruptcy hearing that Vick has agreed to a=2

0"television documentary deal" that will pay him $600,000."

Whether is any of these deals, or others, no matter how Vick tries to cash in on his criminal "celebrity," he must be stopped - because every benefit Michael Vick obtains once he is released from prison will be derived not from his former football stardom, but from the publicity he received from his criminal abuse of dogs.

ISAR is leading that fight!

The ISAR-drafted Petition is simple and to the point.

Each time ISAR learns that Vick has, or is about to, benefit from his criminal "celebrity," we'll send our "Stop Dog Abuser Michael Vick From Benefiting From His Crime" Petition to everyone who's trying to help him.  We'll also send an email to all Petition signers informing them that we've done it.

We're starting to make a list, beginning with Roger Goodell and Jim Haslett.

Please forward this ISAR Petition to everyone on your mailing list, and ask all recipients to do the same.

ISAR hopes that within the next few weeks we'll receive at least 10,000 signatures so now that Vick is starting to cash in on his criminal "celebrity," we can send our Petition to every individual, company and other organization which might benefit him. The three mentioned above are merely the tip of what is going to be a very large iceberg.

Non-profit organizations usually solicit contributions to support their activities through direct mail campaigns.

But that doesn't make sense for ISAR.

Don't Let Michael Vick Benefit By Abusing Dogs

Petition Update 2 (May 15, 2009)

Lest anyone forget some of the details about dog-abuser Michael Vick's brutal conduct, we all must remember that according to a United States government report Vick found dog fighting "funny to watch" and, proving that he is no better than a savage, actually threw family pets in the ring with pit bulls and watched the trained killers injure or kill the helpless dogs-so  a witness told federal investigators during the dog fighting investigation that brought Vick down and deservedly sent him to prison.  That's the kind of reason ISAR has taken it upon ourselves to lead the fight against Vick profiting from the celebrity he acquired by being a savage abuser of dogs.

Reports are that dog-abuser Michael Vick

will be released from federal prison on May 20 and serve the short remainder of his sentence at his Virginia home.  Let's "celebrate" that day by reaching ISAR's goal of 10,000 signatures on our anti-Vick Petition.

We know that many of our supporters and others have already signed our anti-Vick Petition, but please take this opportunity to ask everyone on your email address list to do the same.

PLEASE FORWARD
