Montana Governor Amends Horse Slaughter Bill Horse Slaughter bill now back in Montana State Legislature Dear Horse Supporters, Thank you your outpouring of letters and phone calls to stop Montana from allowing horse slaughter plants, here is a quick update: On Friday Governor Brian Schweitzer amended the Montana horse slaughter bill (HB 418) to take out the sections that would have granted special rights to the proposed foreign-owned horse slaughter plants. Now the bill must pass by a majority vote through the state house and senate again, and if it does, horse slaughter plants will be allowed in Montana. They will listen to constituents, so everyone in Montana: please tell your representatives and senators not to pass this bill. You can read more at: www.helenair.co m. WHAT TO DO NOW: Other states (including Illinois and North Dakota) also want to allow horse slaughter plants and so we need a national ban on horse slaughter and the transportation of horses across our borders for slaughter. Please continue to call and write your Senators and ask them to support the newly introduced Landrieu-Ensign Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act (read more on the Animal Welfare Institute website www.awionline.org). You can take action by clicking here. Thank you for all you do!
