Good to hear from you, Keta.

I agree, it will be harder to lose the weight and tone-up this year, but

much easier than 10 years from now!

We'll get there by making one good decision at a time.

When in doubt.keep moving. Many women find they need to be moving at a

brisk pace for one hour per day to see the weight loss.

That is absolutely awesome on the weight loss. It can get frustrating at times

(it seems to take forever) but you sound like you are doing a great job.

As for your salad, how about 1/2 cup of cider vinegar and a 1/4 cup of olive

oil. Also add some spices. Like basil, chives, tarragon, garlic, black pepper,

onion powder, garlic powder.

Have a great day.

Pat & the gang,

inches over all... have been taking a fluid pill and that made a

huge difference, to date, total inches lost since March (minus the

misread measurements a couple of months ago) 34 1/4 inches.. over my

whole body! I'm seeing results in upper arms, bust, waist, hips,

abdomen, thighs, calves and neck! OVER ALL!!

I was given a potassium supplement since I'm losing so much fluid

and I asked for Vegetarian tablets and surprise!! had no problem

getting them from the pharmacy.

I recently took some pictures that I compared with earlier ones and

can see a wonderful difference that I don't tend to see day to day

looking at myself in the mirror. Getting rid of a lot of fluid has

been a wonderful boost to my motivation... and the exercise from

running to and from the bathroom isn't hurting anything either... lol

As for the 3 bean salad... I guess I'm glad I didn't have more than

a spoonful to taste... how about some suggestions of substitutes for

the sugar and the oil that would make it a more healthy salad? (I

know Pat made a suggestion, are there any others?)

Always open to new things....

You are doing the right thing but may be missing the final piece of

the puzzle...

How much exercising are you doing a day? Pushups on the floor?

Situps on the floor? Did you walk around the " block/farm " today?

There is alot more to losing weight than just the food.

You'd be surprised at how much difference exercise does to a weight

loss plan. Otherwise you may not lose anything for quite some time.

Nikki,

Weeks without any exercise my weight loss is 1.5 - 2 lbs. When I exercise for

30-35 minutes a day the loss can be as much as 3 - 4 lbs a week. Neither seems

like much, but my cumulative is 20 lbs now. Tommie (jerushy) has lost about 50

lbs in 10 months. (is that right Tommie?)

I am hoping that the slow and steady pace is my key to keeping it off this

time!

Good luck!

I don't lose weight unless I am 100% raw, and I've still got a ways to go,

so it's taking me a while. When I went to 100% raw cold turkey back at the

beginning of the year, I lost 12 pounds in 6 days. Another time when I had

gotten off and got back on, I lost 9 pounds the first 3 days! It comes off

so easily when I'm 100% raw as long as my fat intake is relatively low

(10-20%).

Also, I was NOT exercising during either of these times either. I definitely

think exercise is important, but I'm really not very disciplined to do it

every day. Now if you're talking about running around the yard with my kids,

I still need to do that more, but that's easy for me. :) I definitely prefer

that anyway since it's more 'natural' exercise.

I lost 30 pounds in the first three months at 95 percent raw. I could

not exercise because I pulled ligaments in my knee the second week. I

followed the Rainbow Green Live recommendations for Phase 1.5.

Cindy, I had to walk a lot before I started eating raw and I lost a

few pounds. You notice I said " HAD " to walk. I wouldn't have done it

otherwise. I was fat and lazy. When I'd been eating raw for a few

days, I had so much energy that I couldn't keep from exercising. I've

been putting in 45-50 minutes a day on a fairly regular basis since.

I've lost over 50 pounds. I need to lose a few more but I've kind

of " plateaued " for now. I'm not worried because I know I'll lose some

more if I need to. I may have developed some muscle and muscle weighs

more than fat. I know that I've lost some inches.

BTW, thanks for the comment you left on my blog!

Thanks for the comment on energy Tommie.

The amazing thing about energy and the human body is that when your

tired, the actual act of exercising will in fact " energize " you.

When I hit the gym twice a week I can tell you truthfully that while

entering the parking lot I just want to park and go to sleep after a

full days work. I know though, if I can make it in the front door,

make it to the locker room, change and just crawl to the first

machine I see and do " something " on that machine... I'll make it for

another hour or hour and a half. I then leave the gym laughing and

ready to go like I just woke up!

Yes, the body is amazing, just give it a chance.

I notice a big increase in energy too when I am 100% raw, to the point I

*have* to get some energy out somehow! LOL! I love that feeling. If I could

just make good choices every day then I know I can feel like that all the

time!

I enjoy reading your blog. It's different from Judy's, so I try to keep up

with them both. :) There are a few others I read too sometimes. Oh, and

thanks for signing my guest book on my web site! :) I'll get new pictures up

soon. I don't have a digital camera though, so I just don't take too many

pictures right now.

It IS wonderful to have so much energy, isn't it?

Yeah, my blog is different from anyone else's because I'm different.

My children would say " weird " . If I had a crew like Judy's, I'd post

more pictures, too, but my cat just WILL NOT help around the house.

She isn't interested in doing anything but eat, sleep, hiss, rub

against my legs, and meow. Plus, I fix so few things that are

noteworthy any more that it wouldn't do any good to put a recipe for

what I eat. When I was logging it on fitday, if I clicked on the

food, it would invariably say, " This food has no ingredients. "

Let me know when you upload your pictures! I plan to take some on my

first anniversary. That will be June 24.

Cats are so independent! I think that's why I've always loved them. They

enjoy the attention you give them, but if you don't want to spend a lot of

time with them or don't have a lot of time, they could care less! LOL! They

crack me up! :) We've got two cats right now. I've had cats most of my life

and probably always will. :)

I will definitely let you know about new pictures, and I look forward to

seeing yours!

Cindy

P.S. Isn't that irritating about FitDay??? I wish there was a raw vegan

version of FitDay! :)

Don't sweat it, I am NOT bone thin and I am vegan! Vegetarian diets are HIGH in

carbs. We still have to watch that we are eating the right things and getting

plenty of exercise.

Vegetarian or vegan doesn't necessarily mean healthy.

Vegetarian junk foods are still around us everwhere...from chips to

cakes and cookies. A lot of vegetarian dishes have a lot of cheese,

butter, and mayo in them.

When I switched from veg to vegan, I did lose some weight; however,

the problem remains the same.

Our choices still matter. If I bake up a batch of vegan cookies, they

are slighly healthier than their vegetarian counterparts, but still

full of fat and sugar.

Take a real inventory of what you eat for a week. Look at portion

sizes, daily calorie totals, and log EVERYTHING you snack on.

I bet you'll be surprised by how much junk you are eating. It isn't

just pasta and bread that makes us gain the weight.

Keeping a log really helped me start losing weight by making me more

aware of my choices. ...my 2 cents

Right on. The only way to lose or maintain weight is controling the

calories that you eat, and make your intake of calories equivalent to your

burning of calories.

I keep a record of everything I eat. Its the only way to make sure that you

account for everything. I was at an office today that had sugar free

pumpkin bread. I took half-a-slice, estimated it at 50 calories and on the

list it went!

Excellent point Jody:

Because something is being sold in a healtfood market does not make it

healthy either. You still have to read those labels and see what is in the

product is made of ... and how it is prepaired.

Veganism and vegetarianism are lifestyles not weight

loss diets as many people believe. I know just as

many vegans, vegetarians and non-vegs on diets to

maintain their weight. You still need to count

calories and exercise.

I can't tell you how many people want to join and

write in the box, I want to join so I can drop tons of

weight fast after I stop eating meat. I always respond

to let them know this isn't a weight loss group but we

are more than happy to discuss what works for us, toss

ideas out there, etc.

I totally agree my family gets on me because since I became a vegetarian three

years ago I have gained weight so they say I should do Atkins and eat bacon. Or

I have friends who think that since I dont eat meat the pounds should be flying

off. All of you have made such valuable points that it is all about choices sure

a product could fit into your lifestyle but could be high in fat.

My mother - never been a veggie in her life - did Atkins while she lived

with me. The smell!!!!! She would never clean up the grease and we had

many fights over that.

Point out that Atkins died in his early 70's and the guy who coined the

term vegan lived well into his 90's. Unfortunately I can't remember his

It doesn't help the public perception either when a magazine

like Vegetarian Times, displayed prominently in many a grocery

magazine rack, has emblazoned on this month's cover, " Go Veg,

Get Slim. " ;)

RE: Re: Weight Loss

My mother - never been a veggie in her life - did Atkins while she lived

with me. The smell!!!!! She would never clean up the grease and we had

many fights over that.

This is a huge misconception. Vegetarianism is a lifestyle not a weightloss

diet. You have to count calories and exercise to drop weight. Some new vegs

drop lots of weight since they cut out all the fast food junk but you have to

find out what works best for you. Less pasta and grains, more steamed veggies,

etc. Donna

weight loss

Hi all,

I thought that when I started eating more of a veggie style of life, I

would lose weight. Well, I have not lost a pound. Could I be doing

something wrong? Is it possible to eat too many veggies?

Thanks for the help and any suggestions you may have for me. I'd really

like to lose about 10lbs.

Many factors could play into this. Your metabolism, your amount of daily

exercise and movement or lack of, high calorie way of preparing foods, your

genetics, medications, health issues, eating to much, eating big meals late in

the evening, snacking, and so on. .
