Boy am I confused!

How could you kill and eat an animal, or enslave it and force pregnancy, shorten its life and take away its offspring at a young age ethically?

Hi, my name is Gino and I have a philosophical question. I've been vegan for 4 yrs now and my roommate has been trying to but has trouble with the dairy part, but she won't eat meat. But she still believes that we are suppost to eat meat but because of the way the animals are abused she wont. So here's my question: If by some miracle the meat, dairy and all the other ones started some how being done ethically and such, would any one of you start eating meat and/or dairy again? I at this point would no matter what eat meat or dairy again, i just dont want to be part of it in any way, to me it's still being part of killing! Just a curious question that i'm interested in seeing what other vegans thought. Peace, Gino

Is there a drink that you can make that you don't have to put in a blender? I don't have a blender and the ones that I looked at you had to use a blender.

LOL, I covet a vita-mix, but settled for a cup I bought at Sprouts that has a lid and came with a wire ball. The kids couldn't loose the cup fast enough, but I have the ball and use it in a glass spaghetti sauce jar (which I like better than the plastic cup anyway). Its kinda like a whisk and works pretty well to mix drinks, but wouldn't chop anything. I have been thinking about a bullet.

I think I’d love a Vita Mix too. I do have a really nice blender, but it’s just too time consuming to take it all apart and clean it every time I use it, so I don’t use it often. Is the Vita Mix any easier to clean?

My stick blender cost me less than $50 and it's super-easy to clean.

To clean my VitaMix, I just fill it with warm water and a few drops of dish soap and then put the lid on (VERY IMPORTANT:-) and turn it on and let it clean itself!! After a minute or two, I just rinse out the soap and it's clean. I never even have to touch the blades and there is nothing to take apart. I do sometimes have to wipe a speck off the sides, like berries or nut butters that might stick up high, but that's it! I know it's a big investment, but it is SO worth it. Seriously. I saved for a long time for mine and I'm glad I did.

Thanks Serene, I do have a blender, and I used to have the stick kind but I

never used it. I was really wondering if the Vita Mix is easier to clean

than a blender. Anyone here have one that they can comment on?

I find the Vita Mix to be much easier to clean than a regular blender.   there are no pieces to take apart around the blade, you just reach down and clean around the blade which is easy to do.   the blade is not sharp because it uses high speed rather than a sharp blade to blend the food.   I am really happy with the Vita Mix.  I make a lot of the Fuhrman recipes (www.drfuhrman.com) like salad dressings and blended vegetable-fruit smoothies and sorbets, none of which I could do with my previous blender.   it helps that it has this plunger than lets you smash the food down. -barbOn Jan 3, 2008, at 4:42 AM, Coop wrote:Thanks Serene, I do have a blender, and I used to have the stick kind but Inever used it. I used to have a vita-mix, but it burned out and for some reason I

now forget, the company did not honor the warranty. My experience,

during the time I was using it regularly, was that it was really

over-rated. It's basically a high-powered blender that costs way too

much money. I now have a Waring blender with 3 (fast) speeds

and " pulse " . It's a powerhouse. I love it and paid less than $100

for it. Makes terrific green drinks, chops up tough leaves like

collards and kale beautifully. Cleaning a blender is super simple -

fill half full with water and blend! Gets all the little bits in the

corners out. Another tip: keep yours eyes peeled at thrift shops. I

got my Juiceman juicer at a Goodwill for $7 and it's perfect! Woo-

hoo!

Happy New Year everyone - hope it's the healthiest one yet.

Ah yes, I had a KitchenAid before my HealthMaster100.

It was much quieter, but it didn't pass my " kale test "

(i.e., no chunks, very smooth). I wasn't using the

freezing trick though, so it might have worked to do

that. The HM100 is quite effective, and has the same

number horsepower rating as the Vitamix at half the

cost. Others have reported less favorably of it.

I sent the KA to my Dad and he's very happy with it,

and my food processor is still a KitchenAid (and also

rather quiet).

Thanks everyone for your input in the Vita Mix. In my experience, cleaning a blender isn’t as easy as filling it with water and blending. I do have to take the thing apart, because when I haven’t done that, I find a gross residue remains in and around the rubber ring below the blades, etc. I’ve tried making sure I’ve got everything assembled really tightly and then cleaning it thoroughly immediately after use, and it still happens. So I was wondering if the Vita Mix did that as well. Does it have the same basic assembly as a blender? The blades sitting on a rubber ring inside the cap that screws on to the glass jar?

I have the KitchenAid. I got it at Target. The only thing I wish it had

that it doesn't is a stand for when it's not in use.

There were two that commented about this part — that there are no pieces to take apart around the blade. That’s what I was really wondering! I can’t imagine how it works without those pieces around the blade, but if it doesn’t have those, then it might be much easier to clean because that’s where the problem lies with blenders. Thanks so much for all the responses!

I would have to echo several other posts regarding how much I love my Vita-mix and my experience with Vita-mix customer support and warranty service has been wonderful. My opinion is that vita-mix is worth every penny. Just my two cents. - Phil

LOVE LOVE LOVE my vita mixer. Have purchased 5 of them for family and friends and myself. Easy as all heck to clean... as mentioned warm water - few drops of dishwashing detergant and turn it on for 60 seconds.. DONE. simple. I use mine daily. No problems. COMPLETELY worth the investment!

I also covet a Vita Mix!!! LOL

I do have a decent blender and use it almost everyday. Since it is

just fruit and greens and nuts that I'm blending, clean up is really

easy. I just rinse it out really good with a tiny bit of dish soap.

My bottom doesn't come off but the top comes apart. The directions

for most blenders tell you to half fill with hot water and a tiny bit

of dish soap, then pop it back on and blend at high speed for a

minute. Instant dishwasher!!! That's the easiest way!

Everyone’s been saying they clean their blenders this way, but I find I have to take it all apart and wash each piece, even the rubber bit beneath the glass has remnants of whatever I’ve blended. I’m definitely putting it back together tightly, but I’ve found that it happens on most blenders.
